October means changing leaves (and weather), apple cider, walks on leaf-covered trails, spooky Halloween events, the first of the holiday craft shows and even more to help your family create a month to remember. As always, we're here with your go-to list of Morgan County events to get on your calendar for the month ahead. Fall Color
We're expecting fall colors to begin to hit our area in early to mid-October, with peak color in early November. Plan your visit accordingly if you've got leaf-peeping plans.

Hall's Haunted Halls
One of the region's favorite haunted houses, Hall's Haunted Halls is located at the historic Hall Elementary School building near Monrovia. Open on Friday and Saturday nights in October, this haunted attraction is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit! Kids under age must be accompanied by an adult. Doors "creep" open at 7 pm and "slam shut" at 11 pm. Tickets are $12 at the door, or $10 when purchased online

Drink at the Creek Final Concert
Join Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co and Distillery for the final installment of this year's Drink at the Creek Concert Series on October 5, featuring live music from six popular bands. Attendees will enjoy the sounds of Bigg Country, Corey Cox, Jake Dodds, Pure Country, Split Rail and the Main Street Band as they soak up the beautiful atmosphere and their beverages of choice. Admission is free; there is a $10 per car parking fee. All ages welcome.

Wines & Vines Container Party
Join Greendell Landscape Solutions on October 5 for the fall edition of their very popular Wines & Vines Container Party event! There will be snacks and wine available as you create a beautiful fall themed container garden. The event's $50 fee includes everything you need, including soil, plants, drainage components and your first glass of wine! Register in advance as spaces are limited. 

Kid Fest
Always the first weekend of October, (Oct. 5-6 this year) this event is fast becoming an annual tradition at Anderson Orchard! The family friendly October Fest features all the normal fun of Anderson Orchard - apple and berry picking, pumpkin patch, hayrides, straw pyramid, cider slushies - plus lots of fun inflatables for the kids to enjoy, live music and food trucks on site! Come enjoy a beautiful fall day at the Orchard.  

Word Play Workshop
Join two local artists, Pam Hurst and Lynne Medsker, at The Sterling Butterfly in Martinsville for a fun Word Play workshop that lets you explore different ways of expressing your thoughts. You'll leave with a piece of collage art on canvas and a custom bracelet! Choose from two convenient class times - Sunday, October 6 at 2 pm and Wednesday, October 9 at 7 pm.

2nd Friday Open Studios Night
October's monthly Open Studios Night at the Art Sanctuary of Indiana will feature the Fall Foliage Festival Art Show, plus Open Mic Night featuring local musicians and other performers. Stop in and visit with resident artists on October 11 from 6 to 9 pm. 

Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival
The area's signature fall festival kicks off on Thursday, October 11 and lasts until Sunday, October 14! The entire courthouse square shuts down to welcome fun carnival rides, great food and vendor booths. Join them for lots of fun extras like Farmers Day at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, a 5k run/walk, art exhibit, live music and entertainment throughout the festival and, of course, the parade on Sunday at 1 pm.  

Autumn Fest Marketplace
Stop by the Brickhouse on Main during the first two nights of the Fall Foliage Festival to partake in their Autumn Fest Marketplace! Take a break from the carnival rides to enjoy seasonal concessions and a variety of local vendor booths to browse. Open Thursday and Friday evening during the Fall Foliage Festival, Oct. 10 & 11. 

Knobstone Trail Mini Marathon
This annual race takes place on October 12 this year featuring several course lengths to ensure that all skill levels can participate. Enjoy a beautiful fall run on the trails of Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Courses are cleared each year before the race and feature long, mostly level stretches with a few steep hills tempered by switchbacks. 

Winter Farmers Market
The Morgan County Farmers Market has something new for this year - a Winter Market! Every other Saturday throughout the fall, you can find local vendors at Keller Hall, adjacent to the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Washington and Sycamore Streets. When the weather gets bad, they'll move inside the hall. Items available will include cool weather vegetables, sorghum molasses, local meat, baked goods and a variety of handmade items. This month's dates are October 12 and 26.

Live Music: Wild Dogs
Join Cedar Creek Winery for some live acoustic music from the Wild Dogs band on Saturday, October 12 at 4 pm. Made up of three musicians who have played together for more than 30 years, the Wild Dogs perform a variety of classic songs, plus a bit of more recent tunes as well. This is a free show; all ages welcome.

Live Music: Slide Cat Royale
Enjoy some live music along with dinner at Ralph and Ava's Public House in Mooresville on Saturday, October 12. Music begins at 8 pm with Slide Cat Royale. 

Orchard Dash 5K
Join Anderson Orchard on Sunday, October 13 for their annual 5K event! The course takes you through the gorgeous grounds of the orchard itself, and there's a special Lil' Apple Dash for the youngsters. 

Live Music: Steve Fulton
Cedar Creek Winery welcomes musician Steve Fulton on Sunday, October 13 for some live acoustic music from 2 to 5 pm. This is a free show; all ages welcome.

Pairing Dinner: Four Day Ray 
Join 21 North Eatery and Cellar for their October Pairing Dinner, this time featuring beverages from Four Day Ray Brewing (Fishers, IN) along with Chef Matt's mouthwatering creations. There will be five courses, each paired with a different brew. Cost is $60 per person (21+) and seating is limited. 

Green Township Fall Festival
The Green Township Fire Rescue presents a fun fall festival event with pumpkins, costumes, face painting and more! Seasonal snacks will be available on site including hot cider and caramel apples. The event runs from Noon to 5 pm on October 19. 

Music Bingo
Enjoy a rousing game of Music Bingo at Ralph and Ava's Public House on Saturday, October 19. The games begin at 8 pm!

Halloween Costume Party
On Saturday, October 26, Fables and Fairy Tales Bookstore in downtown Martinsville invites your little ghouls and goblins to enjoy a costume party from 1 to 5 pm. There will be finger foods, story time and crafts. 

The Haunting of Waverly
Join Old Town Waverly Park for the second annual Haunting of Waverly event featuring a truck and treat, traditional arts demonstrations and a haunted hayride adventure! The haunting takes place beginning at 5 pm on Saturday, October 26.

Halloween Comicfest
Comic book fans, see an artist at work, snag a free comic book, plus Halloween candy, and a trunk or treat event for little ones in costume. Stop by Krypton Comics in Martinsville beginning at 6 pm on October 26!

Pumpkins in the Park
Bring the kids on October 27 for this fun annual event from Martinsville City Parks, featuring a fun hayride, up Jimmy Nash Park Hill, meeting storybook characters along trick or treat trail and a pumpkin carving and decorating station! Appropriate for all ages and costumes are welcome! 

Sammy Terry Live
See legendary performer Sammy Terry live at the Art Sanctuary, just in time for Halloween. The Art Sanctuary will host this event on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 6 pm. Concessions will be available and there is a meet and greet opportunity after the show. Tickets are limited.

Live Music: The 78s
Cedar Creek Winery welcomes The 78s back to the stage on Sunday, October 27 for live music from 2 to 5 pm. This two-person group is a unique musical experience, playing a wide range of covers and original music. This is a free show; all ages are welcome. 

YMCA Fun Run: Burkhart Creek Park
Enjoy one last free fun run/walk event with the friendly folks from the Barbara B Jordan YMCA. This series of free runs will culminate on Oct. 30 at Burkhart Creek Park near Paragon. Bring the whole family out to enjoy an evening at the park!

Halloween Hike
Mooresville's Halloween tradition continues this year with Halloween Hike, held each year on Halloween night for children ages 10 and under. Kids will love the one mile walk along Pioneer Park Road where they'll meet all sorts of characters (and get a few treats as well). There's also a marshmallow ghost roast and hayride!
