Summer's finally here! Time to revel in warmer temps, outdoor activities and relaxing meals on outdoor patios. Whether you have a long summer vacation or have to work throughout the season, you'll want to plan a visit to Morgan County for some of these don't-miss events in June! Keep an eye on our calendar as we are always adding new events.
Morgan County Farmers Market
Stop in and talk to area farmers and artisans at the twice-weekly Morgan County Farmers Market! Find them at the Friends Church in Mooresville on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 pm and at The Main Connection in Martinsville on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Be sure to enjoy a specialty coffee drink from Maggie's at the Main on Saturdays while you browse!
Movies at the Main
Every other Friday evening in Martinsville, enjoy a fun, family-friendly movie night on the lawn at The Main Connection. Films are suitable for all ages and there will be some snacks available at the event. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs (and maybe some bug spray). This is a free event. Films will be shown on June 1, 15 and 29 at dusk.
Link Observatory Events
Join the experts at Link Observatory Space Science Institute to learn more about the cosmos this summer. There is open observation at the Observatory on the first Saturday of each month (June 2), plus daytime open hours on June 14 and their monthly multi media presentation at the Mooresville Public Library on June 16. After the presentation, shuttles are available for telescope viewing at the Observatory.
Area Code 812 Concert
Live at The Main Street Stage in downtown Martinsville, Area Code 812 will perform on June 2. There will be two shows - the early show is at 6 pm with dinner available, and the later show at 8 pm. This brand-new, intimate venue has limited seating, so be sure to reserve yours early by calling 317-538-3369.
2nd Friday at The Art Sanctuary
Join the Art Sanctuary for their monthly night of open studios, open mic performances and more! See a variety of artwork in different mediums and talk with the artists about their creations, then head downstairs to enjoy performances that could range from music to dance to spoken word. This month's event is June 8.
Mariah & Austin Acoustic Reunion Show
Another fun performances at The Main Street Stage, this time featuring the Mariah and Austin Acoustic Reunion Show on Saturday, June 9. This duo of guitar players will perform at two shows - 6 pm with dinner available and 8 pm. The show will also feature Ryan Harrison Jr. Tickets are available by calling 317-358-3369 and seating is limited.
Giants Live North American Championship
The Strongest Man in the World may just be in Martinsville on June 9! Seriously - this fun event is the only North American qualifying event for the Strongest Man in the World Competition. Admission is free, so come on out and see these strongmen in action. Participants will showcase their tremendous strength through several unique events.
Wrong Side of Dixie Concert
The first of several summer concerts at Mooresville's new Bicentennial Park, located right downtown, within easy walking distance of area restaurants. Music begins on Saturday, June 9 at 7 pm. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the show. Wrong Side of Dixie plays their own version of country, blues, southern rock and soft rock, with a sprinkle of soul. Free admission!
No Cover Songwriters Showcase
This monthly songwriters showcase gives you the perfect reason to enjoy authentic Cajun cuisine at Zydeco's Cajun in Mooresville. Each month features a different set of local and regional songwriters, presenting their original works. Admission is free and the music begins at 7:30. This month's featured songwriters are Taylor Hernley, Tobacco Jones and Sam Stone.
All A-Bard! Shakespeare at the Station
The Merry MAC Players present their 2018 Drama Camp attendees in this fun youth production of All A-Bard. Performances are scheduled for June 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm with an additional matinee on June 16 at 2 pm. The production will feature excerpts from plays by William Shakespeare. Tickets for the performances are $7 per person and can be purchased online at www.merrymacplayers.org.
The Main Street Stage in downtown Martinsville presents Songwriter's Night Saturday, June 16. As always, there are two shows - the early show at 6 pm with dinner available for purchase, and the later show at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 per person. Featured artists are Austin Beliles, Jamie Nichole, Lonnie Weible and Angie White.
Mardi Gras Block Party
Join Mooresville on June 21 for their annual Mardi Gras Block Party! Why? Because, in Indiana it's much more fun to celebrate during June than February! This year's celebration takes place at Bicentennial Park and on Main Street, but all the fun of years past will be on hand - costumes, live music, kids activities, crawfish eating contest and more! The celebration starts at 5:30 pm.
Ride That Train Concert
This free concert at Bicentennial Park in downtown Mooresville will feature Ride That Train, an Indy-based band that plays Americana, blues, jam and dance music. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, and hit up a nearby restaurant for dinner before the show! Music begins at 7 pm on June 23.
Bigg Country Concert
Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery presents regional favorite Bigg Country in concert on June 23, beginning at 5 pm. Admission is free, but there is a parking fee. Free tasting will be available, and you are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show. All ages are welcome.
Blue Eyes & Grey Skies Concert
The Main Street Stage in downtown Martinsville presents Blues Eyes and Grey Skies on June 23. This local band plays a wide variety of bluegrass, rock, folk, blues and more. Admission is $15 per person and shows are at 6 pm (with dinner available) and 8 pm. All ages welcome.
Lloyd Wood Concert
He's back for another show! Lloyd Wood returns The Main Street Stage for another night of music and laughter. Reserve tickets are available at Tom Fiddlery and seating is limited. Admission is $15 per person and shows are at 6 pm with dinner available for purchase, and 8 pm.
Willowfield Lavender Farm Summer Concert
Our friends at Willowfield Lavender Farm present their first of three summer concerts, this one featuring Davis and Devitt. Admission is only $5 per person with kids under 12 free. Enjoy the sounds of folk rock, blues, country and acoustic pop/jazz amid the purple haze of lavender on June 30, beginning at 6 pm. Nearby Mallow Run Winery will be on hand with wine by the glass or bottle. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome!
