One of our favorite ways to enjoy those days with perfect (or close-enough-to-perfect) weather is to enjoy a fantastic meal or a few drinks while relaxing on an outdoor patio. Not sure where to go in Morgan County to enjoy lunch or dinner al fresco? Not to worry - we've got you covered. Whether you're looking for brunch, dinner or just drinks, here's a quick list of our favorite outdoor dining options at independent, locally-owned eateries around the county. Call ahead in early spring or later fall to verify that your choice of outdoor seating is, in fact, open.
12 North Eatery & Cellar, Martinsville
You can't tell from the front, but this chef-owned eatery has an adorable patio space in the back of the restaurant. Surrounded by walls and flowers, you can easily forget you're sitting just a few yards off the Courthouse square! The chef-inspired menu and amazing cocktails are just as enjoyable as the outdoor space. Select bottles of wine are 1/2 price on Wednesday evenings, and watch for monthly pairing dinners.
Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery & Distillery, Martinsville
Okay, perhaps you won't find outdoor dining here, but Cedar Creek definitely knows a thing or two about outdoor drinking! Enjoy your choice of beverages from their handcrafted wine, beer and spirits (including fun and unique cocktails) as you soak in the gorgeous atmosphere just three miles from town. This is the perfect place to relax with friends. Don't miss out on their upcoming Drink at the Creek Summer Concerts - advance tickets are available for some shows.
Dawg House Pizza, Monrovia
This casual pizza place in Monrovia often uses the hashtag #nofarmsnopizza and well... they kind of have a point! The small town atmosphere really drives home the connection between rural agriculture and high quality pizza ingredients, which ensures a very tasty end result. Calzones, strombolis and breadsticks are popular as well, and trust us - you definitely want to share an order of Toasted Raviolis! Outdoor dining is located on a spacious wooden deck.
Holy Smoke Hog Roast Company, Martinsville
Perhaps our favorite outdoor patio, the outdoor space at Holy Smoke is pup-friendly and features ceiling fans for warm days and a heating system for cool nights. That makes it the perfect place to gather with friends and enjoy some great BBQ! Try the BBQ Tater Tot Nachos, and be sure to get a free treat if you're dining with canine friends. Located on Main Street, only steps from the downtown square, Holy Smoke is a great place to relax and soak up the charming atmosphere of Martinsville's historic downtown.
Indy's Family Restaurant, Martinsville
One of the area's go-to breakfast choices, Indy's has a few outdoor tables available, which are perfect for a leisurely brunch. The restaurant is located just off State Road 37 at Burton Lane and has a wide variety of menu items to choose from, featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner favorites.
La Herradura Mexican Grill, Martinsville
The newest of the area's Mexican offerings, La Herradura is located in the Grand Valley shopping center and features a large patio space where you can enjoy a tasty meal, great drinks and a pleasant view of the hills just south of town.
Las Chalupas, Morgantown
Another great option for Mexican cuisine (and margaritas), Las Chalupas in Morgantown features a spacious patio space surrounded by flower boxes. A great place to meet friends and enjoy a relaxing evening outdoors, they also have a fairly extensive menu to choose from and large groups are welcome.
Tomato Pie Pizza Joint, Paragon
Paragon's favorite pizza by far, Tomato Pie features a large outdoor dining space where they also often host local musicians for live music on Saturday evenings. What could be better than live music, great pizza and those amazing garlic breadsticks? Order up one of their signature gourmet pies, or create your own perfect pizza!
