"I'm so glad I live in a world with Octobers" wrote author Lucy Maud Montgomery in Ann of Green Gables, and we're pretty glad about that too! You see, October is apparently the perfect month to celebrate some of our very favorite things.... October is the officially designated National Month for Arts & Humanities, Pizza, Books, and Pretzels, so here's a quick checklist on how to explore and celebrate those things right here in Morgan County.
Your October adventure starts NOW!

October is National ARTS & HUMANITIES Month:
The arts and humanities are quite literally the soul of our communities, and our nation. Culture is what makes us... well, us!
Celebrate the creative side of Morgan County and go do something artistic! Seriously - this is the perfect month to get out and enjoy a concert, create something in a local art class, or take some gorgeous fall photos before those leaves fall! Need specific ideas? There are always creative juices flowing at The Glazed Gypsy Studio & Boutique and Studio PH.D at The Sterling Butterfly in Martinsville and Mudworks Ceramic Studio or Bliss Glass in Mooresville. Sign up for a class or workshop.
Prefer live entertainment? There's live entertainment each day at the Fall Foliage Festival, Oct. 8-11, including well known area bands, the Martinsville High School Mprov Vocal Jazz Choir, and area youth dance groups, or you could head to Mooresville on Oct. 24 for Arts a palooza at the Mooresville Arts Partnership which features a mix of performances, activities and shopping (as long as you're supporting local artists, that counts!).
Pop culture more your style? Attend one of multiple live music or movie screening events scheduled this month at several area venues, including the Martinsville Entertainment Theatre, The Venue, The Depot Theatre, Cedar Creek Winery, 1915 Steakhouse & Bar, and more!
Not real big on traditional arts activities? Take a walk around Martinsville and see how many CR Schiefer sculptures you can find, check out the mural wall at Old Town Waverly Park, or explore the humanities side of the equation with a visit to the Morgan County History Center and Museum to learn more about our local history and culture.

October is National PIZZA Month:
The favorite food of many, especially those in the younger set, pizza's got everything you need - grains, carbs, dairy, veggies. It may actually be the perfectly balanced meal! There are several great pizza spots in Morgan County, in fact we've already compiled a list of them, so here's your to do list for this month - Eat Local Pizza! No matter where you are in Morgan County, chances are there's a local pizza place nearby, so take this month to indulge in cheesy, doughy goodness.

October is National BOOK Month:
Read something! Seriously, it's estimated that about 40% of American haven't read a book in more than a year! Don't be one of those people - whether you prefer a print book, e-book, or audio book, take the time to enjoy a book that speaks to your individual interests this October. Need help finding one? Stop by Fables and Fairy Tales in downtown Martinsville, the Rose Romance Bookstore in Mooresville, or one of several area public libraries - they'll be happy to help you find something suitable! Of course, you can always choose to have a "blind date with a book" (available at Fables and Fairy Tales) and be surprised!

October is National PRETZEL Month:
If you've never tried the pretzel charcuterie at Cedar Creek Eatery, NOW is the time! Get to Cedar Creek this month, bring a friend or two so you can share, and get this amazing pretzel charcuterie. It pairs perfectly with a flight of your favorite brews from Cedar Creek Brew Co or wine varietals from Cedar Creek Winery. (Be sure to check our calendar for upcoming events - Cedar Creek hosts a variety of live music events, including both ticketed Drink at the Creek Concerts and free casual performances each weekend.)
