As summer draws to a close, there's still plenty of fun to be found in Morgan County! Explore the outdoors, enjoy local dining options and don't forget about upcoming events this month. Farmers' Market is still going strong with a plethora of locally grown produce and handcrafted items. Live music options abound and it's time to talk about all those upcoming festivals that carry through from now until October! Here's our list of top events to get on your calendar this August:
Morgan County Farmers Market
Join area growers and crafters at the Farmers Market each week through September. Tuesday Market takes place at the Friends Church in Mooresville from 3 to 6 pm and Saturday Market takes place at The Main Connection in Martinsville from 9 am to 1 pm. Vendors feature locally grown veggies, eggs, meat and handcrafted items such as jewelry, soaps, candles, woodcrafts and more.
Morgan County Fair
This year's Morgan County Fair week continues through August 3, culminating with the Fair and Square 5K race! Filled with fun, great food, rides, exhibits and so much more, be sure to visit before the fair is gone for another year.
Flag Town 5K & 10K Run
Mooresville's annual Flag Town 5K and 10K race will take place on Saturday, August 3 at Pioneer Park. Packet pickup begins at 8 am and the race itself kicks off at 9 am. Participants can choose from two route lengths. Advanced registration is recommended.
3rd Annual Pioneer Acoustic Musicfest
Local and regional acoustic musicians will gather at Mooresville's Pioneer Park for the Pioneer Acoustic Musicfest, put on by Mooresville Acoustic Music Friends. Come enjoy the sounds of these talented local and regional artists. Music begins at Noon on August 3 and continues into the evening. Food and drink will be available on site.
Indiana Cutters Football
Get a jump on football season and join the Indiana Cutters for a semi-professional football league game on August 3. The Cutters play home games at the Martinsville High School Football Field. Admission is only $5 and kids age 12 and under are always free.
Link Observatory Open
Join Link Observatory for their monthly open hours. On the first Saturday of each month, you're invited to come view the stars (and sometimes planets!). Weather permitting, the observatory's dome will be open for viewing beginning at 8:30 pm on August 3.
Brunch with the Dan Holmes Group
Zydeco's Cajun in downtown Mooresville welcomes you for a special brunch event on August 4, from 11 am to 3 pm. Live music will accompany your meal, courtesy of the Dan Holmes Group. Don't miss the shrimp and grits!
Live Music: The 78s
Join Cedar Creek Winery for a relaxed, free concert from The 78s, made up of Brett Hardin and Faith Marie. Music begins at 2 pm on August 4 and will feature a fun mix of covers and original tunes from this popular duo.
Old Settlers Picnic & Fair
An annual Mooresville tradition, this year marks the 148th year of the Old Settlers Picnic & Fair. Held at Pioneer Park, this fun event features carnival rides, games, live music, local booths and food vendors. The event kicks off with the Old Settlers Parade on Sunday afternoon and continues through Tuesday, Aug. 4-6.
Link Observatory Daytime Hours
Don't miss your chance to explore the historic Link Observatory during daylight hours! On Thursday, August 8 the observatory will be open from 9 am to 3 pm for visitors to stop by and learn more about this Morgan County treasure, it's unique and fascinating history and where they're headed in the future.
Mystic Menagerie Bicycle Tour
Join the Central Indiana Bicycling Association for this fun (and free) annual ride through Morgan County on August 10. Mystic Menagerie Bicycle Tour participants will meet at South Elementary School in Martinsville and choose from three different routes - 18, 32 or 62 miles. All are welcome to participate; helmets are required.
The Morgan County Farmers Market presents Touch-A-Truck in partnership with the Recreation Experience on August 10. Bring your little ones to explore all those big vehicles they love, including emergency vehicles, tractors, utility trucks and so much more. 10 am to Noon, with no horns the first half hour for those with noise sensitivity.
Wine Fest Pop Up Market
The FarmHouse Market in Mooresville brings you Wine Fest for their August Pop Up Event! On August 10, from 10 to 4 pm, browse through dozens of vendors including wine themed vendors and more.
Giants Live North American Open
Join the Giants Live strongmen competing for a chance at the Strongest Man in the Wold competition for this fun, family-friendly event in downtown Martinsville. On August 10, competitors from North American and beyond will show their strength in a six-event competition beginning at Noon. Join the competitors for autographs and a meet-and-greet session after the event at Fables and Fairy Tales. (More on this unique event here.)
The Woomblies Rock Orchestra & Tastes Like Chicken
Join Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co., and Distillery for another great Drink at the Creek concert! This event will feature The Woomblies Rock Orchestra and Tastes Like Chicken on Saturday, Aug. 10. Admission is $10 and parking is free. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening in a beautiful setting.
Main Street Band
The first Bicentennial Park Concert of the month will take place on August 10, featuring Main Street Band. Music begins at 7 pm and the event is free. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and even a picnic!
Live Music: Bomar & Ritter
Cedar Creek Winery presents Bomar & Ritter, performing their unique brand of acoustic folk and folk rock music on August 11 from 2 to 5 pm. Stop by to enjoy the tunes along with locally crafted beverages.
Southern Compromise Acoustic Sessions
The Main Street Stage at Tom Fiddlery in downtown Martinsville welcomes Southern Compromise Acoustic Sessions for a fun evening of live music on August 16. Music begins at 7 pm. All ages welcome; admission is $15 per person.
Link Live Program
Join the experts from Link Observatory Space Science Institute on August 17 for a multi-media presentation focusing in on some aspect of space exploration or the universe beyond Earth. Program begins at 8 pm at the Mooresville Public Library, followed by telescope observation at the Observatory if weather permits.
Live Music: Phil Pierle
Join Cedar Creek Winery as they welcome Phil Pierle for a free acoustic performance on August 18. Music begins at 2 pm.
West Fork Whiskey Co. Pairing Dinner
Join 21 North Eatery & Cellar for another of their tasty pairing dinners on Tuesday, August 20. This time, Chef Matt Harakal is creating culinary gems to pair with Indianapolis based West Fork Whiskey Co. Enjoy this multiple course food and drink pairing for only $60 per person. Reserve your seats before they're gone!
Enjoy live music at Mooresville's Bicentennial Park on the evening of August 24, featuring Miah Ferran. Music begins at 7 pm and the event is free. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to relax at the area's newest park.
Soul Street & The Dynamics
It's time for another Drink at the Creek concert! Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co., and Distillery invite you to join them for a free concert featuring Soul Street and The Dynamics on Saturday, August 25. The concert is free, but there is a $10 per car parking fee.
Y Fun Run Series: Pioneer Park
Come explore Highland Lakes Camp with a fun run on Aug. 28. The Barbara B Jordan YMCA is hosting a Y Fun Run Series at a variety of area parks this summer, leading up to their annual Y Run in November. November's race requires a registration fee, but the practice fun runs are free! Race begins at 6 pm.
95th Annual Paragon Homecoming Festival
This Morgan County tradition takes place on Labor Day Weekend each year. The Paragon Homecoming Festival features carnival rides, games, food booths and lots of live music. Join the small town of Paragon for their annual celebration, Aug. 30 - Sept. 2.
50th Anniversary Celebration
Anderson Orchard in Mooresville is turning 50! Come help this iconic family owned and operated Morgan County attraction celebrate this milestone with a celebration centered on customer appreciation.
