April brings warmer days, flowers in bloom and fun events to Morgan County! This time of year is perfect for getting back outside and enjoying a hiking trail or two, or just wandering around town for the afternoon, exploring new shops and old favorites. Be sure to hit up one of our favorite ice cream spots to celebrate the warmer temperatures. Welcome, spring!
Here are the upcoming events you'll need on your calendar to enjoy the season in Morgan County, but be sure to check our event calendar, as additional events will be added there throughout the month as we receive information on them.
Cruise-in on the Square - Every Thursday
One of our favorite area traditions is set to return to the downtown courthouse square in Martinsville on Thursdays, beginning in April. Join unique and historic car owners from around the area as they gather on the square each Thursday, beginning at 5 pm for the Cruise-in on the Square. This creates a fun and festive atmosphere downtown, perfect for enjoying dinner at one of several downtown eateries, browsing local shops and of course, checking out all the cool cars!
Live Music @ The Creek - Weekends
Cedar Creek Martinsville, the only Indiana winery, brewery and distillery all in one location, hosts live music just about every weekend. Watch our calendar and social media platforms for more information about who's playing each weekend. Typically, Cedar Creek hosts free live performances on Friday evenings, Saturdays beginning at 4 pm and Sundays beginning at 2 pm. Artists vary, but these shows are always free and open to all ages. Free performances will not take place on dates when ticketed shows are scheduled - see our post on the Drink at the Creek Concert Series for more on those ticketed shows.
Live Music @ Black Dog Brewing Company
Black Dog Brewing Company in Mooresville regularly hosts live music on Saturdays, typically beginning at 7 pm. Artists vary, but are almost always locally or regionally known. These live musical performances are free and the brewery does have a family seating area. Be sure to sample their awesome flat bread pizzas (and of course their locally-brewed beer) while you're there).
Live Music @ Hoosier Que
Join Hoosier Que at Foxcliff Golf Club on Saturday evenings for free live performances from local and regional artists. These shows are always free and open to all ages. Hoosier Que serves up quality BBQ and is known for an extensive selection of both craft brews and bourbons.
Meet the Easter Bunny - Apr. 1 & 8
The Martinsville Candy Kitchen invites you to come meet the Easter Bunny on the first two Saturdays of April. The Easter Bunny will be on hand in the store and photos are welcome, so bring your camera! Pick up some tasty candies while you're there or enjoy ice cream or a slushie..
Jimmy Nash City Park Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 1
Martinsville Parks & Recreation presents an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 1 beginning at 2 pm at Jimmy Nash City Park. Ages 2-12 are welcome to participate. Please bring your own basket. Later that evening, the older kids get a turn with a Glow In the Dark Egg Hunt for ages 13-17! Meet up between the Park Office and Pool House. Registration is requested, but this is a free event.
Circle K Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 1
Bring the kids out for an Easter Egg Hunt at the new Circle K convenience store on Ohio Street on Saturday, April 1. The fun begins at Noon with two age groups. Photos with the Easter Bunny will be available as well (cost is $2).
Eminence Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 1
The Eminence Harvest Festival committee presents an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 1, beginning at 11 am. This event will take place at the AAVFD Fire Barn with three age groups. There will be two golden prize eggs per age group, plus gift bags and stuffed animals for all, while supplies last.
Breakfast with the Bunny & Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 1
The Paragon Lions Club presents breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 1 beginning at 9 am at the Lions Club. Later in the day, gather at Paragon Elementary School for an Easter Egg Hunt, beginning at 1 pm.
Backtrack Vocals - Apr. 3
The Morgan County Community Concerts Association presents the group Backtrack Vocals. Performing at the Mooresville High School Auditorium, this fun group will take the stage at 7 pm on Monday, April 3. The Morgan County Community Concerts Association presents a variety of performances throughout the year in Morgan County communities. Both season tickets and single event tickets are available.
Pizza & Painting for Teens - Apr. 7
The Morgan County Public Library's Main Branch presents a fun Pizza & Painting night for teens on Friday, April 7. Ages 9-18 are welcome to participate. Register in advance (parental permission is required). The subject matter will be a cool night sky scene. Program begins at 6:30 pm.
Easter Open House - Apr. 8
Morgan County Parks & Recreation invites you to come enjoy an Easter Open House at the historic Wilbur School building! The Easter Bunny and other fun characters will be on hand for conversation and photos with the little ones. Stop by on Saturday, April 8 between 10 am and 2 pm. Participate in kids crafts and enjoy an Easter treat as you see the newest addition to Morgan County Parks properties.
Harold Ringer Memorial Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 8
The Gregg Township Fire Department invites you to participate in the annual Harold RInger Memorial Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8, beginning at 11:30 am. This hunt is open children up to age 12. Each age group will have fun prizes, including a raffle! The Easter Bunny will be on site, arriving via fire truck, of course!
Dirt Track Racing at Paragon Speedway - Apr. 8, 15 & 29
Racing has returned to our favorite dirt track oval at Paragon Speedway. The 2023 season is underway and the track is ready to shine with lots of recent improvements under new ownership. Races take place on Saturdays with affordable admission costs. (Some events may be subject to special event ticket pricing.) Bring the kids and enjoy a night at the races! This month's race dates are April 8 featuring Super Late Models, April 15 featuring the Nathan Byrum Memorial, and April 29 featuring the Johnson Memorial.
The Waters Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 8
Join The Waters of Martinsville for a day of Easter fun. This annual Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10 am with three age categories, 4 and under, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. Please bring your own basket or container.
Mooresville Community Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 8
Head for Pioneer Park in Mooresville on Saturday, April 8 for an Easter Egg Hunt for ages 10 and under, courtesy of Carpenter Realtors. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Hunt begins at 11 am sharp at the baseball fields. No registration required. Please bring your own basket/container.
Green Township Pancake Breakfast & Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 8
Green Township Fire Rescue Station #15 invites you to a morning of Easter fun. Join them for a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 am. At 11 am, the Easter Egg Hunt will begin! The Easter Bunny will be on hand for the event, so be ready to snap to cute photos.
Easter Sunday Brunch - Apr. 9
Join Chef Matt and the friendly staff at 21 North Eatery + Cellar for Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 9. Each month, this chef-owned restaurant features a special brunch menu, served from 10 am to 2 pm. Reservations are recommended, especially for larger groups. Kids menu available.
2nd Friday Open Studios Night: MSD of Martinsville Youth Art Show - Apr. 14
Join the artists of the Art Sanctuary for Open Studios Night on April 8 for a fun evening of arts and culture. The featured exhibition in April will be the MSD of Martinsville Youth Art Show. Stop in between 6:30 and 8:30 pm to see local up-and-coming artists. Chat with resident artists about their work and browse the working studios and hallways of the Art Sanctuary. It's also a great excuse to explore the rest of downtown Martinsville by stopping in at local shops and eateries!
Outdoor Movie: Minions: The Rise of Gru - Apr. 15
Martinsville Parks and Recreation presents their first outdoor movie date of the season! On Saturday, April 15, bring the family, along with lawn chairs or blankets, downtown to the new performance venue on Jefferson Street for a fun outdoor movie. The featured presentation will be Minions: he Rise of Gru. Popcorn and soft drinks will be available for $1 each.
Nerf War! - Apr. 22
Jimmy Nash City Park will host a fun Nerf War event with two age groups on Saturday, April 22. Space is limited, so register early! Cost is $5 per person. Age groups will be 8-12 with play from 2-3 pm and ages 13 and up (including adults!) with play from 3-4 pm. Meet in the grassy field next to the walking track.
80s Retro Prom - Apr. 22
Join Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery for a night of nostalgia with their 80's Retro Prom on April 22. Dash DJ will be on hand spinning all your favorite 80s hits, with the fun beginning at 6 pm. The evening will include great food, photo ops and of course, locally-crafted beverages. Ages 21+ only. Tickets are $15 per person.
Titles & Tastes: A Book & Wine Pairing Event - Apr. 27
Fables & Fairy Tales is at it again! Come enjoy another fun installment of Titles & Tastes: A Book & Wine Pairing Event at Cedar Creek Winery & Eatery. They'll match up popular book titles with beverage recommendations (though you're free to make your own choices) so you can stock up for your next book club meeting. Admission is $25 per person. Enjoy this intimate evening of wine tasting and book shopping, beginning at 5 pm on April 27. Tickets are limited, so don't wait!
WInes & Vines Plant Party - Apr. 29
Greendell Landscape Solutions in Mooresville presents this year's installment of their popular Spring Wines & Vines Plant Parties! This year's first date will be April 29, from 1-3 pm. Additional dates in May are available as well. This fun container gardening class is combined with wine tasting from Mallow Run Winery and tasty snacks to create a fun afternoon. Cost includes your first glass of wine, a commemorative glass, snacks, a container, base soil, potting soil, and five annual plants. Additional plants and embellishments (and glasses of wine) are sold separately.
Independent Book Store Day - Apr. 29
Celebrate Independent Book Store Day on Saturday, April 30 with a trip to Fables and Fairy Tales in downtown Martinsville. This fun store has a wide selection of books and other items for all ages and interests. Watch for more details about their Independent Book Store celebration!
