April brings warmer days, flowers in bloom and fun events to Morgan County! This time of year is perfect for getting back outside and enjoying a hiking trail or two, or just wandering around town for the afternoon, exploring new shops and old favorites. Be sure to hit up one of our favorite ice cream spots to celebrate the warmer temperatures. Welcome, spring!
Here are the upcoming events you'll need on your calendar to enjoy the season in Morgan County, but be sure to check our event calendar, as additional events will be added there throughout the month as we receive information on them.
Karaoke at Main Street Monrovia - Every Wednesday
The Main Street Grill in Monrovia invites you to enjoy a weekly Karaoke night on Wednesdays. Come out from 8 to 11 pm to join in the fun. Choose a song to sing along, with friends or just listen to others perform. Hosted by Track to Tunes Entertainment and DJ Switch.
Cruise-in on the Square - Every Thursday
One of our favorite area traditions is set to return to the downtown courthouse square in Martinsville on Thursdays, beginning in April. Join unique and historic car owners from around the area as they gather on the square each Thursday, beginning at 5 pm for the Cruise-in on the Square. This creates a fun and festive atmosphere downtown, perfect for enjoying dinner at one of several downtown eateries, browsing local shops and of course, checking out all the cool cars!
Taps on the Square - Every Friday
Join the Martinsville American Legion Riders and Indiana Spirit of '45 each and every Friday evening in Downtown Martinsville for Taps on the Square, a local tradition honoring American heroes. Names are read beginning around 6:50 pm with echoing Taps from live buglers at the seventh bell. Join them on the southwest corner of the courthouse lawn under the flags.
Karaoke with Bobbi Delane - Every Friday
Join Bobbi Delane for Karaoke Stars at Hoosier Que, located at Foxcliff Golf Club, on most Friday evenings, beginning at 7 pm. Bobbi will host as audience members take the stage to show off with their favorite songs. Whether you'd like to share your talent or just enjoy the show, this a a fun evening for all ages!
Link Observatory & Daffodil Gardens Open - Saturdays & Sundays in April
Learn more about the historic Goethe Link Observatory and Helen Link's Daffodils, located just off State Road 67 between Martinsville and Mooresville. Both Dr. Links were influential in their chosen health care professions and their secondary studies in astronomy and botany, respectively. The daffodil gardens are open to visitors on weekends in April, from 10 am to 4 pm, courtesy of the Indiana Daffodil Society and the Morgan County Master Gardeners. The observatory itself will also be open for tours, courtesy of the Indiana Astronomical Society.
Studio Ph.D Class: Finishing & Polishing Skills - April 1
Join jewelry artist Pam Hurst for a Finishing and Polishing Skills class! Class will meet at The Sterling Butterfly on Morgan Street, on April 1, beginning at 6 pm. This is one of five classes that are prerequisites for more advanced courses. In this class you will learn how to finish your pieces for a professional look. Class size is limited. Cost is $60 per person.
Class: Custom Book Embroidery - April 3
Join Fables and Fairy Tales for a fun afternoon of creativity! Sahara will be in the store for a fun class on custom book embroidery. The class fee includes all instruction and all materials needed to create your very own embroidered book! You must purchase the paperback book used for the class from the bookstore the day of the event. Cost is $35 per person. Please RSVP (only 12 seats available).
Studio Ph.D Class: Forging & Forming Skills - April 3
Join jewelry artist Pam Hurst for a Forging and Forming class! Class will meet at The Sterling Butterfly on Morgan Street, on April 3, beginning at 6 pm. This is one of five classes that are prerequisites for more advanced courses. In this class you will learn about the hammers and how to move metal. You will learn how to form and shape metal pieces to create your desired effect. You will leave with a bangle bracelet and at least one ring. No experience necessary. Class size is limited. Cost is $60 per person.
Music Bingo at The Creek - April 4 & 18
Join Cedar Creek Winery and Brewing Company on Friday, April 4 for an evening of Music Bingo at The Creek! Indulge in your favorite locally-crafted beverages and don't forget about their amazing eatery menu as well! This is a free event and all ages are welcome. Games start at 6:30 pm.
UASC Sprints Return to Paragon/MMSA - April 4
Join Paragon Speedway for another great night of dirt track racing on Saturday, April 4. The night's feature will be the UASC Sprints/MMSA. Pit Gates open at 3 pm; Grandstands open at 5 pm. Special event admission rates may apply. Pit passes available.
Big Green Egg Cookout - April 5
Ace Hardware, located between Burton Lane and State Road 39, will host a Big Green Egg Cookout at their location on Saturday, April 5. These cookouts are a fundraiser for local non-profit organization Stability First and feature delicious brats, pork burgers, pulled port, grilled cheese with pork and hotdogs, along with chili, cooked on the iconic Big Green Eggs. They'll be serving beginning at 11 am, until 2 pm (unless they sell out!).
Early Explorers Expo - April 5
The Morgan County Early Learning Coalition presents a fun Early Explorers Expo at Old Town Waverly Park on April 5 form 10 am to 2 pm. The day will be filled with free activities and giveaways for families and children of all ages. There will also be living history demonstrations and activities provided by the Friends of Old Town Waverly Park - blacksmiths, a tinsmith and more will be on site to explain their crafts in kid-friendly terms along with live demonstrations. There will also be activities available inside the log cabin with Cousin Violet, Jacob Whetzel, Aunt Grant and Grandma Ikabod where you can learn to make your own toys, such as clothespin dolls, corn husk dolls, thaumatropes, whizzers/whirlygigs and mug rugs.
Maple Syrup Day - April 5
Bradford Woods will host Maple Syrup Day on Saturday, April 5 from 10 am to 1 pm. This year, enjoy a free pancake breakfast from 11 am to 1 pm, bid on silent auction items and purchase some maple syrup cinnamon rolls. Visit the Syrup Stations while you're there to learn how to identify a maple tree, tap the tree to collect sap, then boil the sap over a fire until it transforms into that tasty syrup we all love.
Open MIc Night - April 5
The Main Street Grill in Monrovia invites you to enjoy a monthly Open Mic Night on the First Saturday of each month. Come out from 8 to 11 pm to join in the fun. All musicians, songwriters and singers are welcome to sign up to perform, or just come and enjoy the local talent!
Live Music: The 78s - April 6

Cocktails & Canvas at Frenchys - April 10
Frenchy's Pub in Morgantown is partnering up with Cupcakes & Canvas for a fun, Easter bunny themed Cocktails & Canvas event on Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 7 pm. Grab your friends and join them for a fun-filled night of instructor-led painting, sipping cocktails and fun! Whether you're an experienced artist or just looking to unwind, this in-person event is perfect for you. Located right in the center of Morgantown, Frenchy's Pub offers a friendly atmosphere along with great food and drinks. Admission covers all materials and one cocktail! Tickets are available online. Cost is $25 per person.
Jimmy Nash Park Easter Egg Hunts - April 10 & 11
Jimmy Nash City Park invites the kids out to this year's Easter Egg Hunts at the park! On April 10, kids ages 2-12 are invited out for egg hunting fun beginning at 6:30 pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a free event and will take place in the grassy field between the Park Office and the Pool House. Then, on April 11, the older kids (ages 13-17) are invited to come join a special Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 9 pm. This is also a free event, with the extra challenge of after-dark timing.
Morgantown Fire Department Spring Fish Fry - April 11
Join the Morgantown Fire Department for a fish fry on Friday, April 11, from at 11 am to 4 pm (or when they run out). The event takes place at the Morgantown Fire Department on N. Highland Street in Morgantown. Carry out also available.
April Open Studios Night & Live Music - April 11
The Art Sanctuary of Indiana will host their monthly open studios night throughout the building pm Friday, April 11. Browse working artist studios and talk with the resident artists, take in the current exhibition in the main gallery, then head downstairs to the lower gallery for some live music, featuring either local performers or and Open Mic Night. Event begins at 6 pm.

Join Frenchy's Pub in Morgantown for live music from Rick & The Sound Machine on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 8 pm. Come a bit early for dinner and enjoy one of their awesome breaded pork tenderloins or juicy cheeseburgers!

Studio PhD Class: Basic Tool Skills - April 14
Join jewelry artist Pam Hurst for this Basic Tool Skills workshop! Class will meet at The Sterling Butterfly on Morgan Street, on April 14, beginning at 9 am. Participants will learn how to use basic hand tools in class along with general studio procedures and safety. You will learn to use your pliers, hammers, and all the other new tools in the bench. You will learn how to make proper loops, assemble severals pieces together, how to open and close jump rings, how to texture, the proper way to file, drill and cold connect. Class size is limited. Cost is $60 per person.
Studio PhD Class: Soldering Skills - April 17
Join jewelry artist Pam Hurst for a Soldering Skills class! This class is one of several prerequisites for more advanced courses. Class will meet at The Sterling Butterfly on Morgan Street, on April 17, beginning at 9 am. In this class you will learn about the torch and safety, best practices and different ways to solder and practice to get good at heat recognition. You will leave with a link bracelet with a charm that you will make. Cost is $60 per person.
Pioneer Park Easter Egg Hunt presented by Carpenter Realtors - April 19
The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Pioneer Park in Mooresville will take place at 10 am on Saturday, April 19. Meet at the baseball diamonds. Ages 10 and under; bring your own basket. Egg hunters will be divided into four age groups - age three and younger, ages 4 and 5, ages 6 and 7, ages 8 to 10. Event sponsored by Carpenter Realtors.
Biggest Music Bingo Ever II - April 19
Join Cedar Creek Winery and Brewing Company and Black Dog Brewing Company on Saturday, April 19 for the BIGGEST Music Bingo Ever, Part II at the outdoor performance venue in downtown Martinsville! This is a very special event that is a collaborative effort from both Cedar Creek and Black Dog to raise funds for the Morgan County Humane Society. Last year's event had 300 players and raised over $8,000… and this year will be even more epic! This fun event will be filled with high-energy music bingo, complete with awesome prizes; craft beer from two amazing local breweries (plus wine & spirits), food trucks serving up snacks, vendors, games and more AND it's all to support a great cause! All ages welcome.

In this class you will learn how to design and create 3 pair of earrings with just some sterling silver wire and beads. We will have some patterns for you to follow or you can design your own. Studio PhD Class: Chain Making Session - April 24
Join jewelry artist Pam Hurst for this monthly Chain Making Session! Class will meet at The Sterling Butterfly on Morgan Street, on April 24, beginning at 6 pm. Participants in this session will learn to create a specific type of chain. This session has no prerequisites and no soldering or fusing is required. All materials, necessary tools and instruction is included in the class fe of $40 per person.
Community Rummage Sale - April 25
Spirit of Life Church in Martinsville will host their annual Rummage Sale on April 25 & 265 at the church on Indiana Street. Items will include gently used clothing, household items, small appliances, furniture, tools, and more.
Junk in the Trunk Community Yard Sale - April 26
Mooresville Parks and Recreation will host their annual Junk in the Trunk Community Yard Sale on Saturday, April 26. The sale will take place at Pioneer Park, from 9 am to 1 pm, in the parking lot adjacent to the Aquatic Center. Admission for shoppers is free!

FFF Spring Purse Bingo Extravaganza - April 27
The Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival will host a Spring Purse Bingo Extravaganza at the Martinsville American Legion Post #230 on Sunday, April 27. Admission is $45 and includes lunch, a door prize ticket and 20 games of Purse Bingo! Cash bar available on site as well. Proceeds support the Fall Foliage Festival, which takes place each year in October.
A Concert that is Out of This World - April 28
The Martinsville Community Band invites you to attend their spring concert on April 28, beginning at 7 pm. This concert will be Out of This World, as their performance will feature music from some of your Science Fiction favorites! Enjoy an evening of fun on the edge of the galaxy. Concert takes place at the First Baptist Church in Martinsville (1109 East Columbus Street). Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted.
