April brings warmer days, flowers in bloom and fun events to Morgan County! This time of year is perfect for getting back outside and enjoying a hiking trail or two, participating in a 5K, or just wandering around town for the afternoon, exploring new shops and old favorites. Welcome, spring! Here are the upcoming events you'll need on your calendar to enjoy the season in Morgan County:
Visit Helen Link's Daffodils at Link Observatory
Each weekend in April, the Indiana Daffodil society makes sure the gates are open so you can walk among the thousands of daffodils planted by Helen Link, wife of Dr. Goethe Link who built the observatory and a well-known botanist in her own right. (It's also a great opportunity to snap some family photos among the flowers!) Gardens are open from 10 am to 4 pm on weekends, thanks to the Indiana Daffodil Society and the Indiana Astronomical Society.
Blue Eyes and Grey Skies Band
The Main Street Stage at Tom Fiddlery welcomes this popular local band featuring Bluegrass, Folk and Classic Rock favorites. Admission is $15 per person; music begins at 7 pm.
100th Anniversary Celebration
The Martinsville Candy Kitchen is celebrating 100 years in business with a day of fun! There will be a bounce house, face painting, balloon animals, free cupcakes and more! Come help this iconic, family-owned small business celebrate this incredible milestone on Saturday, April 6.
Link Observatory Programs
In addition to weekend daffodil viewing, the Observatory will be open for public telescope viewing on the evening of April 6 and for daylight hours from 10 am to 3 pm on April 11 (perfect for exploring the facility in the daylight and learning more about it's history). Join them for a multi-media presentation at the Mooresville Public Library on April 20, followed by telescope viewing. All programs are free!
No Cover Songwriters Showcase
This monthly singer/songwriter showcase event takes place at Zydeco's Cajun on the second Thursday of each month (that's April 11 this month), bringing some of the best local and regional talent. Enjoy the music as you relax with authentic Cajun flavors in a fun, New Orleans style atmosphere. Music starts at 7 pm.
Underwater Easter Egg Hunt
Looking for a bit of a different experience this Easter? Join the Barbara B Jordan YMCA in Martinsville for this fun twist on egg hunting, on Saturday, April 13! Register in advance - children are grouped by age and ability. Underwater hunting is available for ages 11 and under. A Glow in the Dark egg hunt will also be held in the gym for ages 12 - 14.
John Prine Tribute Night
Join Ralph and Ava's as they celebrate the music of John Prine on April 12 with a line up of several area musicians. The following performers will be celebrating the music of John Prine with performances of classics as well as selected original songs: Chris Wolf, Pablo Adams, Ralph Ed Jeffers, Ray Hoskins, Michael Ray Durham, Dan Even, Shay O'Dell and Brian Wiser. Of course, the food will be amazing as well...
2nd Friday Open Studios Night
Join the artists of the Art Sanctuary for Open Studios Night on April 12 for a fun evening of arts and culture. Chat with resident artists about their work, enjoy open mic night downstairs with local performers and browse the monthly exhibition - this month features a youth art show from local students. It's also a great excuse to explore the rest of downtown Martinsville by stopping in at local shops and eateries!
Join the Fall Foliage Festival organizing committee for this fun spring event on April 12 - $20 gets you 20 games of bingo and a door prize ticket. Here's your chance to win one of 20+ purses all while having fun! Doors open at 6 pm; bingo games start at 7 pm.
Feline Frolic Color Run
One of our favorite 5K run/walks of the year, the annual Feline Frolic is always a fun day! The route takes you through downtown Martinsville's historic district and past several color stations to ensure that your day is bright and cheery along the way. Proceeds benefit the Morgan County Humane Society's Trap, Neuter and Release Program. This year's event is April 13.
Doggy Dash 5K Fun Run
One of the season's first 5K run/walks in Morgan County, the Doggy Dash will take place at Waverly Park, on the White River Greenway Trail! Only $20 per human and $5 per accompanying canine. Proceeds benefit the Martinsville FFA Chapter. Race starts at 8:30 am on April 13.
Eminence Easter Egg Hunt
Join the Eminence Harvest Festival Committee for a fun Easter Egg Hunt event for ages 12 and younger on April 13. There will be free hot dogs, drinks and prizes, plus a chance to meet the Easter Bunny himself! Hunt begins at 1 pm - please bring your own basket. Rain or shine event.

Spring Pop Up Market
Come shop for spring style at The Farmhouse Market during their Spring Pop Up Market on April 20. In addition to the amazing finds inside, there will be a wide variety of vendors set up outside the store as well.
Pioneer Park Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Pioneer Park in Mooresville will take place beginning at 11 am. Meet at the baseball diamonds for this fun annual tradition.
Enjoy live music with Tim Neuman and his unique combination of country roots with an eclectic mix of rock and pop. Catch him live at Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co, and Distillery on April 20, beginning at 4 pm.
Blue Eyes and Grey Skies Band
Catch local favorites the Blue Eyes and Grey Skies Band with their fun mix of Bluegrass, Folk and Classic Rock 'n Roll at The Depot Theatre on April 26. The music begins at 7:30 pm. Brought to you by the Merry MAC Players.
