The worst of the April showers are behind us (we hope) and we're ready for lots of sunny skies and beautiful May flowers to enjoy as we head to these 10 upcoming events throughout the month. From May Day to Memorial Day, this month gives us lots of great opportunities to get out and enjoy Morgan County! In addition to the events below, don't forget that May kicks off the warmer months that are perfect for exploring the great outdoors

Morgan County Farmers Market
Come out and meet Morgan County's local farmers on Tuesdays from 3-6 pm at the Friends Church in Mooresville and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm on the courthouse square in Martinsville. You'll find a variety of items throughout the season. Early in the season, expect jams, jellies, locally crafted artisan items, plants, fresh eggs, greens and maybe a few surprises. The first Saturday Market always features the Rediscover Martinsville Day Lilly Sale!

Wines & Vines Container Parties... and a Garden Tour!
Parties are Saturdays May 6-20, (Garden Tour is May 20 only.)
Greendell Landscape Solutions knows how to host a party - a container gardening party, that is! They've invited Mallow Run Winery out to provide wine by the glass during these fun container gardening workshops. Each participant receives one glass of wine, a container, soil and several plants to create a work of gardening art! (Additional wine available by the glass or bottle. Get your girlfriends together and get registered for this fun event! On May 20, the container party is later in the day to allow participants to also visit the gorgeous gardens of Morgan County residents Dick and Kay Flauding. Their gardens will be open one day only, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Yo Mama! Standup Comedy Show
The Merry MAC Players community theatre group is hosting a comedy show this Mother's Day weekend! Comedy routines are not specifically mom-themed, but we're pretty sure yo' Mama will laugh anyway... Shows will be on May 12 and May 13  at 8 pm at The Depot Theatre and will feature different professional comedians each night. Leave the kids at home for this one - it's 21 and older only, because Cedar Creek Brewing Company will be on hand with local brews to go along with the laughs!

May Wildflower Walk
This month marks your last chance this year to explore Burkhart Creek Park with Master Naturalist David Mow. He'll point out common (and perhaps a few not-so-common) Indiana wildflowers as you walk the trails. Participants should dress for the weather and be prepared to walk for approximately 90 minutes. Meet at 1 pm in the paved parking lot on Warthen Road (and don't forget your camera).

Racing is back at Paragon Speedway!
Old-fashioned, dirt-track racing is back on the calendar - Paragon Speedway's season opener will be May 13. If you can't make it for opening night, May 20 is Armed Services Night - all active and retired military members are FREE with ID. Racing starts at 7:30 pm. Pit gates open at 4 pm; Grandstand opens at 5 pm. Events are family-friendly - in fact, grandstand admission for kids under age 12 are free with a paid adult!

Batik Art on Paper Workshop
Join Morgan County artist and Indiana Artisan member Lynn Medsker at her Unruly Image Studio for a day of creativity featuring Batik art on paper. This is a fun process and you'll have time to create more than one masterpiece. Drinks and snacks are provided, and you are encouraged to pack your own lunch.

Run With the Foxes
This annual run is a springtime tradition at Morgan-Monroe State Forest now in its 23rd year. Enjoy a run on the forest trails at your own pace - there are four different course lengths to choose from for runners of all levels. Train surfaces are mostly dirt, but there may be a few gravel areas. Registration is online only, and you'll want to get registered early - the deadline is May 17, or when they hit the maximum runner limit. After the race, enjoy cold drinks, watermelon and other fresh fruit and snacks as you mingle with other participants.

Spring Songbird Hike
Join David from IndiGo Birding and Nature Tours for a fun day trip to Burkhart Creek Park, where you'll be on the hunt for beautiful Indiana songbirds. The 83-acre property features areas that are wooded, prairie habitat, a creek and even a wetland area, so you'll have lots of chances to see some amazing, and musical, birds! You'll learn to identify birds by sight and by their song. Cost is only $20 per person, but pre-registration is required.

Morgantown Memorial Parade
Enjoy a small town Memorial Parade on Sunday, May 21 in Morgantown! This is a true small town experience, featuring antique tractors and automobiles, animals, floats, marching groups and so much more, all on the Morgantown's picturesque Washington Street.

Anything on Wheels Car Show
This Martinsville tradition is one of the largest car shows in the area, and one of the first big shows! Held each  year on Memorial Day (that's Monday, May 29 this year), this fun event brings more than 150 awesome vehicles to the downtown courthouse square in Martinsville. The best thing about this car show is that it's not just cars - the show is open to... well, anything on wheels! In a moving tribute to the heroes we remember on the Memorial Day holiday, Bugles Across America provides live, echoing Taps each year, beginning at Noon.
