March has arrived! I don't know about you, but we are seriously looking forward to springtime and all the fun events and activities the warmer weather brings with it to the Morgan County area. It's time to reacquaint ourselves with the area's hiking trails and parks, but that's not all - art, music, wildflowers, gardens, starry skies and even a bit of fantasy are all on the schedule for March - get these fun events on your calendar, ASAP!

Painted Stones Workshop
Artist Lynne Medsker will welcome a limited number of participants to her Unruly Arts Studio in Martinsville for a fun painted stones workshop on Saturday, March 4. Get registered for this one, while you still can!

Mooresville Open Market Antiques Open House
On Saturday, March 4, from 10 am to 4 pm, stop in at Mooresville Open Market Antiques for some treasure hunting! While you're in town, don't forget to browse through Yellow Moon Antique Mall and The Constable's Antiques as well, and perhaps enjoy a tasty lunch at Ralph and Ava's Cafe

The Kingdom Heirs
World famous music group the Kingdom Heirs will be in town on Sunday, March 5 for a concert with special local guests DownPour. Music will begin at 4 pm at Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville. Admission is $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

Link Observatory Events
Weather can be a bit iffy in the springtime for stargazing, but you've got three opportunities to check out Link Observatory Space Science Institute in March. On March 3, enjoy free observation time beginning at dusk. The Observatory will host an Open Day on March 9 from 9 am to 3 pm, and their monthly multi-media program at the Mooresville Public Library will be on March 18 at 7 and 9 pm followed by night sky viewing at the Observatory if weather permits. Each of these events are FREE!

No Cover Songwriters Showcase
The second Thursday of the month (March 9) is your opportunity to enjoy live music from local and regional singer/songwriters at Zydeco's Cajun in Mooresville. This monthly showcase features live, original music from 5 to 8 pm. Be sure to enjoy some Cajun flavors while you're there!

Swing into Spring with Swing Dancing
The Art Sanctuary will host their monthly 2nd Friday Open Studios Night on March 10 and a special spring bonus has them featuring swing dance lessons in the lower gallery! An experienced ballroom dance instructor will provide a lesson from 6:30-7:30 pm ($5 for adults, $1 for kids), followed by open dancing until 9 pm (free for all).

Wildflower Walk
Master Naturalist David Mow will introduce you to common Indiana wildflowers and the trails at Burkhart Creek Park, as well! David will identify a variety of flowers as you explore the park on March 18. Meet at 1 pm for the hike, which will last approximately 90 minutes. (If you can't make it to this one, additional Wildflower Walks are also scheduled for April and May.)

Create a Masterpiece
Martinsville artist Sally Hedges has two fun classes on the schedule for March at Ateliers/Sip N' Paint. Create a "running for fun" piece on March 19 or a fun landscape study, "the walk," on March 24. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot early!

GardenFest
Join the Morgan County Master Gardeners at Hoosier Harvest Church on Saturday, March 25 from 9 am to 3 pm for this year's GardenFest. The annual event features several speakers, a variety of garden-related vendors and their annual pansy sale. Food is available on site and there will be free seed and native tree giveaways as well. As a bonus, if you're working toward becoming a Master Gardener, you can receive credits for attending the speaker sessions!
