Yes, it's winter. Yes, it's a bit slower than usual around these parts, but no, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do. Far from it, in fact! Even though the weather's colder and there aren't quite as many options as in warmer months, there are still plenty of fun things to keep you busy this February in Morgan County. See our calendar of events for even more events, or check out the things to do section for area attractions and interesting experiences. In the meantime, here 10 great events happening in Morgan County this month:

  1. M.O.M Open House
Stop in at Mooresville Open Market Antiques (also affectionately known as M.O.M.) to see what they've been busy adding to their collection of goodies this winter. Their first Open House of 2017 will be Saturday, February 4 from 10 am to 4 pm, on Main Street in Mooresville.
  2. Live Music with Brent Arnold
As always Zydeco's is a hopping place this time of year! In addition to fun Carnival themed events, they'll be hosting musician Brent Arnold on Saturday, February 4 from 5-8 pm. The music is free, and a perfect accompaniment to the eclectic atmosphere and tasty Cajun cuisine!
  3. Link Observatory Open Day
If you have trouble getting to Link Observatory's monthly lecture, or if you'd just like to take a closer look at the historic observatory in the daylight, this is the event for you! The Observatory is now hosting open hours from 9 am to 3 pm one day each month. Stop in and visit on Thursday, February 9.
  4. Open Studios & Open Mic Night
You probably already know that the second Friday of each month is Open Studios Night at the Art Sanctuary, but did you know that they're also hosting a fun, almost-monthly Open Mic Night event in the lower gallery during the same time frame? All are welcome to perform, sign up starts at 6 pm. Come enjoy the performances!
  5. Roe's Antiques & Collectibles Auction
This annual auction is so big it takes two auction companies and it has to be held at the Morgan County Fairgrounds! If you're an antique lover, you do NOT want to miss this event. The auction action takes place on Saturday, February 11 at 10 am with furniture sales beginning at 1 pm.
  6. A Pirate Themed Mystery
Join the Mooresville Public Library for an afternoon of fun with two sessions - 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Ages 6 and up are welcome (under 10 with an adult, please) to decipher the clues and get to the bottom of this pirate themed mystery on February 11.
  7. No Cover Songwriters Showcase
On the second and fourth Thursday of each month, this fun event brings you talented singer/songwriters from Morgan County and beyond! Enjoy the original music at Zydeco's Cajun, from 5 to 8 pm. Music is free!
  8. Waverly Winter Walk
Back by popular demand, a second installment of the Waverly Winter Walk! Explore the new (so new it's still under construction!) greenways trail along the riverfront at Waverly Park, then chat about what's coming up, and what you'd like to see, in future parks developments in Morgan County. Meet on Saturday, February 18 at 9 am.
  9. Link Observatory Public Program
Enjoy a public lecture at the Mooresville Public Library, followed by stargazing at the Observatory (weather permitting). Lectures are presented at both 7 and 9 pm, with viewing of the night sky beginning around 9:30 pm.
  10. Mardi Gras!
Probably the most exciting night of the year to dine at Zydeco's Cajun! The chef (and owner) is from southern Louisiana, so you know they do things right for Mardi Gras! Only 120 seats are available for this legendary Mardi Gras celebration, from 7 to 11 pm on February 28, so get yours today! Only $50 per person.
