The holiday season is here. It's time to celebrate with some of our favorite events of the entire year. From annual celebrations to Santa sightings, Morgan County knows how to do a small town Christmas the right way! (Be sure to check our calendar for even more great upcoming events.)

Holiday Candy Cane Pours
One of our favorite local Christmas miracles, they'll be making candy canes by hand at the Martinsville Candy Kitchen throughout the month. Flavors are now limited to the classic peppermint and cinnamon. Visitors are welcome to come watch the process (and sample the results). Typically, they will make on Friday evenings and two to three times each Saturday. Call ahead or check their Facebook page for specific pour times if you have limited time in the area. Santa will be there on December 16.

Festival of Lights
Don't drive through town without a trip through Jimmy Nash Park to see the holiday light display! This fun display will be lit each evening from dusk until 10 pm through New Year's Day for visitors to enjoy. If the weather's nice, park the car and explore a bit! Families are welcome to take photos with the displays and enjoy the park's amenities.

Indiana Rail Road Santa Train
Stopping in Morgantown for one night only pm Dec. 1, the Santa Train will roll into town at the Morgantown Fire Department around 6:30 pm. New this year - each child will receive a new book from the Morgan County Literacy Coalition! Be sure to be on time to get in line - the line closes at 7:30 pm sharp so they can make their next stop!  Refreshments will be available on site.

Christmas at The Depot
This year's holiday show from the Merry MAC Players is double the fun! They'll be presenting not one, but two holiday plays - The 12 Days of Christmas and An Implausible Clause. Shows will be at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 1-10.

Victorian Christmas Celebration
On the first Saturday of December each year, Mooresville, Indiana goes back in time to celebrate Christmas in Victorian era style! Enjoy craft shows, performances, strolling period characters, a wild west show, demonstrations and so much more as you ride the free trolley between all the different stops. Be sure to enjoy a carriage ride as well!

Downtown at Dusk & Open Studios Night
Join the merchants and artists of Downtown Martinsville on the second Friday evening of the month for this fun event! The Second Saturday Open Studios Night features fun activities and the chance to interact with the artists of the Art Sanctuary of Indiana, while several other merchants stay open late so you can shop your way around the downtown square... and don't forget dinner at one of the downtown eateries!

Martinsville Cookie Stroll
This fun event on the second Saturday of December involves Cookie Passport holders collecting cookies at each stop throughout the downtown area. Passports are sure to be sold out before the event, but there are still reasons to attend! Live music and dance performances, carolers, great deals on shopping and of course the annual Holiday Market where Santa himself makes an appearance!

Yuletide Memories Christmas Concert
The Martinsville Community Band presents their annual holiday concert at the First Baptist Church on Columbus Street. The music begins at 7 pm on December 11 and features some of your favorite holiday tunes, and perhaps a visit from jolly ole St. Nick himself!

No Cover Songwriters Showcase
Take a break from all the holiday shopping and planning and relax with some great music featuring local and regional songwriters performing their own work at Zydeco's Cajun in Mooresville. Held each month on the second Thursday of the Month, this is always a fun event - add in some tasty authentic Cajun cuisine and how can you say no!?

Taps on the Square
We don't always talk a lot about Taps on the Square - it's an event that takes place every Friday evening on the courthouse square in Martinsville to honor the nation's fallen heroes. The Taps on the Square of December 15 will be special though... it's the event's five year anniversary! Come out and support this dedicated group of Martinsville locals who perform Taps each and every Friday night on the courthouse square.

Santa in the Park
Come experience Old Town Waverly Park for the holidays! Santa will be an the park in the historic Bank Building from 2-4 pm on Saturday, December 16. In the Church, you can enjoy story time and Christmas songs (plus cookies and hot chocolate!) and don't forget to check out the blacksmithing and tinsmithing demonstrations as well!

Home for the Holidaze
The Art Sanctuary of Indiana is pleased to host local musician Russ Baum and a few of his friends for this fun holiday concert on December 22. There will be a cash bar provided by 21 North Eatery & Cellar as well as a display of works from local artists and other exclusive merchandise, just in case you don't have your shopping done yet!
