National Soup Month officially takes place in January, but we say that's not enough time to celebrate! From the first chilly winds of autumn through the New Year, and even into the unpredictable weeks of early spring, is there anything better at combating those less-than-warm days than a great bowl of soup? The weather may be cool, or even snowy, but a warm, comforting bowl of soup works wonders to get you cheered up, warmed up, and ready to tackle the rest of your day.

We've compiled a short list of Morgan County restaurants where you'll find some of the very best soups around:

Awnie's Italian Cuisine - Martinsville
Located downtown, snuggled in between the Martinsville Candy Kitchen and Fables and Fairy Tales Book Shop, Awnie's Italian Cuisine features, well... Italian cuisine, but of course that includes a tasty soup of the day, served by the bowl or cup. Their Zuppa Toscana is a popular one!

Blueberry Hill Pancake House - Mooresville
Featuring a soup of the day on their daily menu - sometimes two - this Mooresville eatery is always a great place to warm up. Favorites include cheesy tomato, clam chowder, chicken shell pasta and Italian wedding soups.

Bynum's Steakhouse - Martinsville
Sometimes, you just need a tried-and-true favorite. The soup at Bynum's isn't a different option each day... but it is tasty! Served up with most of their dinner menu options, this French Onion soup is a local favorite for a reason!

Come N Git It Diner - Martinsville
Located at the corner of Main and Morgan Streets on the courthouse square in Martinsville, Come N Git Diner often has a featured soup in addition to their daily chili. Yummy creations include broccoli cheese, tomato basil raviolini and even ham and beans!

Green Hill Diner - Morgantown
Green Hill Diner in Morgantown always has a soup on the menu, but their choices do change seasonally based on ingredient availability. The last we checked they were featuring a steakburger chili on their fall menu, but watch for that to change as we move into winter. (Whatever the new feature is, you know it'll be tasty!)

Farm House Brew - Monrovia
This cute family owned coffee house in Monrovia often features hearty soup specials including stews, chilis and even the occasional unexpected surprise like Jamaican Jerk chicken soup! Be sure to check out their fun flavored lattes while you're there as well.

Indy's Family Restaurant - Martinsville
Conveniently located just off State Road 37 in Martinsville, Indy's features a different soup each day. Pair it with a sandwich, salad or just enjoy a bowl of warm comfort on cold day. The cream of broccoli soup is a local favorite.

Mis Amigos Mexican Restaurant - Martinsville
There are several amazing Mexican eateries in Morgan County, and to be honest, they aren't always known for their soup offerings, but at Mis Amigos in Martinsville, you can choose from several tasty soup options - chicken soup, posole or 7 mares soup are favorites among their regular customers and are often featured on their daily specials!

Morgan's Corner Cafe - Mooresville
Serving up homestyle comfort food, Morgan's Corner Cafe typically has a tasty soup of the day as well as their chili (served seasonally). Enjoy it on it's own or alongside a grilled cheese or other sandwich!

Ralph & Ava's Kitchen & Bar... and Soup on the Side - Mooresville
In downtown Mooresville, these two related options are always amazing. Find chili, French onion and a soup of the day at Ralph & Ava's Kitchen & Bar on Main Street. Around the corner on Indiana Street, a brand new venture offers up several varieties of soup (or mac and cheese) daily for those on the go. The Soup on the Side walk-up window is a great option for a quick warm up with a cup or bowl of soup plus bread.

The Peddler's Loft Cafe - Martinsville
A relatively new addition to downtown Martinsville, The Peddler's Loft Cafe features a wide variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. They typically have two daily soup offerings that change frequently, but are always a tasty and comforting choice! Mark your calendar for their annual Soup-er Saturday event in December, when you can try up to 10 different varieties for one low price!

The House - Mooresville
You'll find interesting and tasty soup options at The House, featuring different soups each day. Examples include familiar standards like potato soup and unique seasonal varieties like pumpkin soup!

Zydeco's Cajun - Mooresville
Of course, we can't forget about the yummy gumbo and jambalaya, found at Zydeco's Cajun in Mooresville! This eatery specializes in authentic Louisiana-style cuisine, and we guarantee you'll love both the food and the atmosphere.

Honorable Mention:

Gather Around BBQ - Martinsville
An honorable mention because they do not always have soup on their daily menu, so you've got to keep a close eye on their daily delectable specials posted on Facebook, but when they DO have it... yum! Previous features have included both smoked turkey chili and smoked brisket chili. Also, new at Gather Around, watch for their cheesy smoked poblano soup!
