As we find ourselves a full month into the New Year, it's that time of year that's rather unpredictable in Indiana... it could be frigid cold and icy, or almost spring-like. That means last minute adventures can be found just by going outdoors - hit up "Park Hill" at Jimmy Nash Park for a fun slide down when it's snowy, or head for one of the area's many trails for some fresh air on milder days. (We recommend sticking to the paved trails just after a thaw - trudging through inches of mud isn't good for the natural surface trails, and it's not much fun either.) Of course, you can't forget about fun events throughout Morgan County - things start ramping up again in February after a brief lull after the holidays. Here are our picks for February events to get on your calendar:

Cookie Decorating Workshop - Feb. 1 & 2
Join Fables and Fairy Tales to learn cookie decorating basics just in time for Valentine's Day! Each participant will learn decorating techniques and leave with six decorated cookies and a recipe for royal icing. Choose from Feb. 1 or Feb. 2 workshops. Space is limited; reserve your seat early! 

Cosplay Build Day - Feb. 1
Want to learn more about cosplay, need to bounce some new ideas off of someone for your next creation, or maybe you'd enjoy helping someone else out with your knowledge and skills? Join Krypton Comics for a Cosplay Build Day on Feb. 1, from 5 to 10 pm. 

Live Music: The 78s - Feb. 2
Join Cedar Creek Winery and Brew Co for a fun afternoon of live music as you enjoy locally crafted beverages. Popular duo The 78s will perform, beginning at 2 pm. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Link Observatory Observation - Feb. 2
The Link Observatory Space Science Institute will open public observation hours in the evening on Feb. 2. Can't make it this month? Mark your calendar - this is a monthly event that takes place on the first Saturday of each month throughout the year. Keep an eye to the skies if you plan to attend as cloudy skies will affect viewing quality and rain will prevent them from opening the dome. 

No Sew Gnomes Workshop - Feb. 6 & 13
You have two opportunities to take advantage of this fun and creative workshop at The Farmhouse Market in Mooresville. Create your very own Valentine's themed gnomes on either Feb. 6 or 13, with no sewing required! Class fee is only $20 and kids are welcome. Please reserve your space in advance.

Live Music: Roger Banister - Feb. 7
Enjoy live music from Roger Banister at Cedar Creek Winery and Brew Co on Feb. 7. Known for high energy roots music, Roger will keep your toes tapping at this free, all ages show. Music begins at 5 pm.

Roe's Annual Antiques & Collectibles Auction - Feb. 8
A Morgan County tradition, this auction featuring a wide variety of antiques and collectibles takes place each year at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. This auction event is so big, it takes two auction houses to make it happen! Who knows what treasures you'll discover?  Action begins at 10 am; furniture sells at 1 pm. Food service will be available on site. 

Live Music: Rob Amrhein - Feb. 8
Ralph and Ava's Public House in Mooresville welcomes performer Rob Amrhein on Feb. 8. Live music begins at 8 pm. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. 

Live Music: Acoustic Catfish - Feb. 8
Come out and enjoy live music from Acoustic Catfish on Feb. 8 from 4 to 7 pm. Catch them at Cedar Creek Winery and Brew Co near Martinsville. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Live Music: Chicken Bone Acoustic - Feb. 9
Enjoy live acoustic music from Chicken Bone, a trio comprised of members from popular regional band Tastes Like Chicken. Catch them at Cedar Creek Winery and Brew Co on Feb. 9. Music begins at 2 pm. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Beginner Succulent Workshop - Feb. 11
Fables and Fairy Tales welcomes participants to learn more about growing succulent plants in this fun workshop. Each participant will leave with a beautiful succulent planter as well as the knowledge of how to care for their new plant. Class is on Feb. 11. Space is limited, so reserve yours early. (This workshop sold out quickly in January!)

2nd Friday Open Studios Night - Feb. 14
Explore downtown Martinsville on the second Friday of the month. The Art Sanctuary hosts an Open Studios Night where you can mingle with resident artists and many other downtown businesses are open late to welcome you. Don't miss the Open Mic Night downstairs in the lower gallery!

Valentine's Dinner at 21 North - Feb. 14-15
Chef-owned eatery 21 North in downtown Martinsville will feature a very special Valentine's dinner experience, available for two nights only. The special four-course dining experience will include complementing wines with each course. (Available without wine as well.) Reservations are required. 

Merry MAC Players presents Love Letters - Feb. 14-23
Bring your Valentine out for a fun evening at the historic Depot Theatre in Martinsville! The Merry MAC Players presents the play Love Letters, which showcases love as illustrated through a 50-year correspondence. Tickets are available online at merrymacplayers.org. 

Beginning Knitting - Feb. 15
Learn the basics of knitting from the experts of Nomad Yarns. They'll be on hand at The Sterling Butterfly on Feb. 15. Participants will learn the proper way to hold needles, basic stitches and will each receive a kit to help turn those basics into solid knitting skills. Reserve your seat early; space is limited.

Bomar & Ritter - Feb. 17
Enjoy live music from Mary Bomar and Bob Ritter at Cedar Creek Winery, beginning at 2 pm. The duo met in Nashville, Tennessee and have more than 29 years of experience performing their own brand of acoustic folk and folk rock music with tight harmony, intricate guitar arrangements and a lighthearted stage presence. 

Mardi Gras Bracelet Workshop - Feb. 20
Join Martinsville jewelry artist Pam Hurst at The Sterling Butterfly for a fun and creative workshop on the evening of Feb. 20. Participants will craft their own Mardi Gras charm bracelet! No experience necessary and all materials are included in the class fee. Reserve your space early as seats are limited. 

Advanced Cookie Decorating Workshop - Feb. 21
