Mooresville

Morgan County's largest town is Mooresville, located on the northern edge of the county. With a population of about 10,000, Mooresville is large enough to provide quality amenities such as parks and eateries, yet small enough to be friendly and welcoming. Right on the edge of the Indianapolis metropolitan area, Mooresville is less than 10 miles from the Indianapolis International Airport. 

Known For:

Established in 1824 on land purchased by Samuel Moore for $2, Mooresville's history includes its humble beginning as a Quaker settlement, the location of the state's earliest high schools (known as the Friends Academy and now owned by Mooresville Schools), and more. Mooresville is also known as the home of the Indiana State Flag. Longtime resident Paul Hadley, a well-respected local artist, submitted one of 200 proposed designs for a new Indiana state banner in 1916 as part of the state's Centennial Celebration. His design was officially adopted by the Indiana General Assembly in 1917 and still remains the official state flag today. The large torch at Indiana Street and State Road 67 and the flames sculpture at Bicentennial Park at Indiana and Main Streets both stand in recognition of Paul Hadley's contribution to Indiana's identity. Other famous Mooresvillians include gangster John Dillinger, Amos Rusie (a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame) and Sammy Lee Davis (the "real" Forrest Gump).

Pioneer Park
This 150-acre park is located on Indianapolis Road. With East Fork White Lick Creek running right through the park and an aquatic center on site, it's the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day! The park also features multiple play areas, ball fields, picnic shelters, paved trails and more. Watch for fun seasonal events and festivals at the park throughout the year.
 

Black Dog Brewing Company
Serving up handcrafted, locally brewed beer, Black Dog's roots in the beer business go all the way back to the mid-1800s when David and Jcob Kuntz came to North American from Germany. The Brewery's current owners have re-acquired the trademarks of their original family brews and are proud to return the Kuntz name to brewing. Named for Shelby, their black lab/great dane mix who appears on the Shelby Dog IPA label, Black Dog officially opened their doors in Mooresville in 2020.
