September brings the arrival of Fall with cooler temperatures, the beginnings of beautiful color and fun things to do throughout Morgan County! Savor the season as you enjoy a visit to one of the area's top fall attractions, dine outdoors, relax at Indiana's only winery, brewery and distillery in one location, or celebrate the changing seasons with a day at the park. Don't forget that the Centerbrook Drive-in remains open on weekends through the fall season! Whatever you choose, don't forget to check the calendar for upcoming events. Here's what's coming up throughout the month of September:
Morgan County Farmers Market
This is your last month to enjoy a visit to the Morgan County Farmers Market for fresh, locally grown veggies, fruit, meat, eggs, fresh baked goods and a variety of handcrafted items. Stop by for Tuesday Market in Mooresville from 3-7 pm or Saturday Market in Martinsville from 9 am to 1 pm.
Live Trivia at Black Dog Brewing Company
Enjoy a fun night of Live Trivia at Mooresville's Black Dog Brewing Company. Trivia takes place every Wednesday evening and is completely hands-free. Sample the brewery's handcrafted brews while you're there (wine and cider are also on the drink menu).
Cruise-in on the Square
Come on down to the courthouse square in Martinsville for the weekly Cruise-in on the Square. This fun event draws a variety of old and new vehicles. Stroll around the inside of the square and chat with car owners, explore locally owned shops and enjoy dinner on the square. The Cruise-in takes place each Thursday evening beginning at 5 pm.
Paragon Homecoming Festival
Kick off September with the 97th Annual Paragon Homecoming Festival on Labor Day Weekend. This year, the Homecoming is a bit smaller with a one-day format on Sept. 5 and several changes to ensure attendee health and safety amid the ongoing pandemic. There will still be live music, food vendors and fun activities to enjoy.
Drink at the Creek Concert: Country Rockin' Blues Fest
Head for Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery this Labor Day Weekend for a fun, two-day event, the Country Rockin' Blues Fest! On Sept. 4 and 5, Cedar Creek will welcome two days of fantastic live music from several great bands including She Loves Horses and Jake Dodds on day one and Split Rail and Creedence Revived on day two! A total of five bands will be featured each day, and a two-day pass is available as well as daily admission. The setting is beautiful, the music will be rockin' and the beverages are always tasty. All ages are welcome. Bring your own seating.
Tapas Brunch at 21 North
Join Chef Matt and the staff at 21 North Eatery + Cellar to enjoy a fun Tapas Brunch on Sunday, Sept. 5. A unique and tasty menu will be available from 11 am to 2 pm including dishes like Arepas, Papi Chulo, three types of Spanish Tortillas and more. Reservations are recommended.
2nd Friday Open Studios Night
Don't miss the Art Sanctuary of Indiana's fun monthly Open Studios Night on Sept. 10. Mingle with nearly two dozen resident artists and learn more about their work and techniques. Enjoy the exhibition of the month upstairs and Open Mic Night downstairs! Studios are open from 6-9 pm.
The town of Monrovia will present their annual Monrovia Festival on Sept. 10-12. This fun, small-town festival will feature vendor booths, live music each night, a car show and even a parade! Don't miss the kids activity area. Parade begins Sunday at 3 pm.
Colonel Vawter Day
Morgantown's annual Colonel Vawter Day celebration is set to take place on Sept. 11. This fun, small town festival kicks off a day full of activities with the Patriot Day 5K Run/Walk. Additional activities include a baking contest, car show, pet parade, art show, vendor booths, historic wagon rides, and more! Don't miss the fun kids zone. Food will be available on site and the event will wrap up with a special open air concert featuring Split Rail.
Eminence Harvest Festival
Join the tiny town of Eminence for the annual Eminence Harvest Festival on Sept. 11. The day begins early with a 5K race and continues with a car show, vendor booths, great food, a magic show and parade! Parade begins at 12 Noon from the A&A Townships Fire Barn.
Josh Kaufman in Concert
5 East in Mooresville will welcome The Voice winner Josh Kaufman (of Team Usher) for a live performance on Saturday, Sept. 11. Doors open at 6:30 pm; music begins at 7 pm. There will be a cash bar and food trucks on site for refreshments.
Wines & Vines Container Garden Party
The very popular Wines & Vines Container Garden Party event returns to Greendell Landscape Solutions in Mooresville - open house style! That's right, this year, simply show up any time during event hours on Sept. 18 to create a beautiful seasonal container garden with help from their experts. Also new this year, you can bring your own container to refresh your spring plantings! Don't worry - there will still be wine from Mallow Run Winery on hand.
Drink at the Creek Concert: Gone 2 Paradise & Two for the Show
Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery present Caribbean Night! Featured performers on September 12 will be Gone 2 Paradise, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, and Two for the Show. The setting is beautiful, the music will be rockin' and the beverages are always tasty. All ages are welcome; bring your own seating.
Drink at the Creek Concert: Carmel Symphony Orchestra
On Sunday, Sept. 12, Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery will offer a slightly different live music performance - Symphony at the Creek! Featured performers will be the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and The 78s. The setting is beautiful, the music will be rockin' and the beverages are always tasty. All ages are welcome; bring your own seating.
Third Thursday Shop the Square: Sidewalk Sales
Join downtown merchants and restaurants in Martinsville for the monthly Third Thursday Shop the Square event! On Sept. 16, shops will be open late so you can shop the square and enjoy dinner at your choice of several downtown eateries. This month's theme will be sidewalk sales. Enjoy a lovely evening as you shop local and support area small businesses!
Downtown Mooresville Street Fair
Head for downtown Mooresville on Sept. 18 for the final Downtown Street Fair of the season! These events feature a wide variety of vendor booths, kids activities, food trucks and more. Come explore downtown Mooresville!
Hunter's Honey Farm Fall Harvest Celebration
Once the honey harvest is complete, Hunter's Honey Farm invites the public in to help them celebrate with the return of their annual Fall Harvest Celebration on Sept. 18. The event always features honey-themed concessions, free tours of the honey barn, pony rides, vendor booths, kids activities and more. Please call to verify, closer to event date.
Polymer Clay Wall Hanging Class
Join artist Sally Hedges at Ateliers Sip N Paint for a fun class on Sept. 18, beginning at 1 pm. You'll create your own unique wall hanging from polymer clay. Class size is limited to reserve your space early. Cost is $30 per person.
Martinsville Chamber Chili Cookoff & Chalk Art Contest
Join the Martinsville Chamber of Commerce for a day of chili and chalk art! Sample several varieties of chili and vote for your favorite, and be sure to browse through the many chalk art creations as well! This event takes place concurrently with the final Morgan County Farmers Market of the season, on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Drink at the Creek Concert: Kenny Live & Bigg Country
Attention country fans - the Sept. 25 Drink at the Creek concert at Cedar Creek Winery, Brewery and Distillery will feature Kenny Chesney tribute band Kenny Live and Bigg Country! Music begins at 5 pm. Bring your own seating. All ages are welcome. Food and beverages available on site.
Old Town Waverly Park Festival
Morgan County Parks and Recreation once again presents the two day Old Town Waverly Park Festival on Sept. 25-26. This event features live music performances, historic reenactors, a variety of craft vendors, kids activities and live blacksmith and tinsmith demonstrations! Returning again for a second year is the car show on Sunday beginning at 10:30 am.
Apple Festival & Craft Fair
Anderson Orchard's annual Apple Festival and Craft Fair is set to take place on Sept. 25-26. The craft fair will run from 9 am to 5 pm, and the orchard (and concessions!) will remain open until 8 pm. The craft tent will feature 75+ local and regional crafters and artisans. While you're there, check out the store or pick your own apples or raspberries, visit the pumpkin patch and let the kids climb the giant straw pile at the playground!
