April showers bring May flowers... and lots of other great things such as racing at Paragon Speedway, tons of outdoor recreation opportunities and fun events! May means patio dining, and the return of some of our favorite seasonal events, such at the Morgan County Farmers Market, lots of outdoor concerts, Mother's Day events and more.
We've compiled a list of upcoming events you'll want to have on your calendar this May, but we're always adding more, so be sure to check our Events Calendar for updated listings in the coming weeks for even more fun options. In particular, keep an eye out for additional last minute live music events to be added at area venues.
Tuesdays & Saturdays - Morgan County Farmers Market
The Morgan County Farmers Market returns in early May with locations in both Mooresville and Martinsville! Stop in a browse locally grown produce and meats, fresh eggs and baked goods and a variety of handcrafted items. Find them on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 pm at the Friends Church in Mooresville and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm at The Main Connection in Martinsville. Opening day dates are May 3 in Mooresville and May 7 in Martinsville.
Wednesdays - Trivia Night
Join Black Dog Brewing Company for a weekly Trivia Night event each week on Wednesday. Trivia night starts promptly at 6 pm and there are always fun prizes to win for those will all the right answers! Trivia Night takes place inside the brewery.
Thursdays - Cruise-in on the Square
Downtown Martinsville is home to the Cruise-in on the Square each Thursday evening from 5 to 9 pm. Classic and unique cars, trucks and motorcycles take over the parking area around the Morgan County Courthouse. Head downtown to browse these awesome rides, talk to their owners and enjoy dinner and shopping on the square!
Thursdays - Music Bingo
Love music? How about bingo? Head for Black Dog Brewing Company on Thursday nights. Enjoy a rousing game of music bingo and great food. You'll find amazing locally crafted beer from Black Dog as well.
Fridays - Live Music
Fridays at Black Dog Brewing Company almost always feature live music from a locally based musician and great food, served up along with great beer from Black Dog, of course! Watch for new varieties and special tappings on Fridays as well.
May 5 & 19 - Stitch and B*tch Nights
Join local fiber artists and crafters for an evening of working on your current textile or fiber project over coffee and good company. Twice each month, this group meets at the Art Sanctuary of Indiana to, well... stitch and b*tch! Meet downstairs in studio 001 A/B at 6 pm to join the fun.
May 6 - Live Music: Blue Eyes & Grey Skies
Local favorites Blue Eyes & Grey Skies will perform on Friday, May 5 at Gasburg Baptist Church near Mooresville. This event will feature a dinner at 6 pm and music at 7 pm with a variety of gospel favorites.
May 6 - Derby de Mayo
What happens when Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day collide? There's a great party at Cedar Creek Brewing Co., of course! Head for The Creek on Friday, May 6 for Derby de Mayo, beginning at 6 pm to enjoy a fun evening of live music with Sisters Brew, and tasty food from the Pronto Taco food truck. Wear your best Derby hat - fedoras, fascinators or festive sombreros - and come ready for a special beer release!
May 7 - Habitat Spring Home Tour
Come out to enjoy a day of fun in downtown Martinsville! Tour six gorgeous, historic homes all located near the courthouse square in downtown Martinsville. Presented by Habitat for Humanity, the Spring Home Tour will take place on May 7 from 1 to 5 pm. There will be a vendor area set up near the homes on the tour as well, opening at Noon. Tickets are available now at a cost of $25 per person in advance or $30 on the date of the tour.
May 7 - 2nd Annual SingerHobbies Car/Motorcycle Show
SingerHobbies will host their annual Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, May 7, from 9 am to 1:30 pm. 20+ awards will be given out, including People's Choice. Come out and browse the vehicles, then vote for your favorite!
May 7 - Free Comic Book Day & Mini-Con
Krypton Comics is set to celebrate Free Comic Book Day with free comics, of course, but also with a fun mini-con featuring comic book artists, costumes and more! Join them on May 7 to meet popular artists Matthew Skillern, Ron Braun, Mitchell Caver, John Buchanan, Jason Keith Phillips, and Rhett Whittington plus everyone's favorite celebrity guest, Rupert from Survivor and The Amazing Race! The fun starts at 10 am.
May 7 - Little Red Barn Market presents Mother's Day Market
Join the Little Red Barn Market at Walker's Homestead for another fun market event! On May 7, the Mother's Day Market will take place from 10 am to 4 pm. Browse 60+ vendor booths featuring a variety of crafters and makers, plus local food vendors as well! The first 50 moms in the gate will receive a free gift! In addition to shopping, there will be live music, a petting zoo, mini photography sessions and more! Admission is $3 at the gate (12 and under free) and well behaved pets on leashes are welcome on the farm.
May 7 - Mommy & Me Tea
Paula June's Tea Room & Cakery presents a Mommy & Me Tea on the night before Mother's Day! Come out and enjoy a fun and relaxing experience from 5 to 8 pm on June 7. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
May 7 - Drink at the Creek: Pavel & Direct Contact and Son de Esquina
The 2022 Drink at the Creek Concert Series will kick off with Latin American Fiesta Night on May 7. Opening act Son de Esquina will take the state at 5 pm, followed by Pavel & Direct Contact. Gates open at 2 pm. Tickets are available online at rdproductionsllc.com as well as in person at Cedar Creek Winery. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Kids age 12 and under are free; locally-crafted beer, wine and spirits, plus food vendors are available on site.
May 7-21 - Wines & Vines Container Gardening Parties
Greendell Landscape Solutions is back with their fun spring themed Wines & Vines Container Gardening Parties! Instructor-led classes are available May 7, 14, 15, and 21. Sign up in advance to reserve your group's table and time. Wine will be on hand from Mallow Run Winery. (Please call ahead for groups larger than four.) Enjoy a fun afternoon of gardening and leave with a beautiful new addition to your porch or patio!
Dirt Track Racing at Paragon Speedway - May 7, 14 & 21
Racing has returned to our favorite dirt track oval at Paragon Speedway. The 2022 season is underway and the track is ready to shine with lots of recent improvements under new ownership. Races take place on Saturdays with affordable admission costs. (Some events may be subject to special event ticket pricing.) Bring the kids and enjoy a night at the races! This month's race dates are May 7, 14 and 21. Check out the Paragon Speedway FB page for the entire season schedule and any updates.
May 8 - Mother's Day Brunch
Join Chef Matt at his friendly staff at 21 North Eatery & Cellar for a special Mother's Day Brunch. The special Mother's Day menu will be served from 10 am to 3 pm and features several scrumptious options such as a Croque Madame, Lobster & Spinach Quiche, Fried Chicken & Buttermilk Waffle, Pan Seared Scallops, a Brunch Salad and more! Kids menu available; reservations strongly encouraged.
May 12 - Speaker: Morels & More
Want to learn more about Indiana's favorite mushroom? The Morgan County Soil & Water Conservation District presents Morels & More with speaker David Mow, a master naturalist and one of Indiana's leading experts on mushrooms. This presentation will take place at the Morgan County Administration Building on Thursday, May 12, beginning at 6 pm.
May 13 - Veteran's Creative Arts Festival & 2nd Friday Open Studios
The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 230 in Martinsville will host a Veterans' Creative Arts Festival on Friday, May 13th at the Art Sanctuary of Indiana located at 190 N. Sycamore Street in Martinsville, from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibit's theme is "In the Spirit of Service, Not Self." This event coincides with the monthly 2nd Friday Open Studios Night at the Art Sanctuary, when you can interact with resident artists in their studios.
May 14 - Downtown Mooresville Street Fair
The first of three Downtown Street Fairs in Mooresville will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 10 am to 6 pm. This is the second year for these fun downtown events featuring 60+ vendors, several food trucks, downtown merchants and more! Mark your calendar for the other two events on July 9 and September 17.
May 14 - Touch a Truck
Get the kids and head for Pioneer Park on Saturday, May 14 for Touch a Truck. From 10 am to Noon, you'll find a wide variety of vehicles to explore, including public service, emergency utility, construction, transportation, deliver and just plain cool - all in once place! This is a rain or shine event. Vehicles will be located in the Aquatic Center parking lot. Free.
May 14 - Drink at the Creek: Resurrection & Fancy Sauce
The 2022 Drink at the Creek Concert Series continues on May 14 with fan favorites Resurrection (Journey Tribute band) and Fancy Sauce! Gates open at 2 pm. Tickets are available online at rdproductionsllc.com as well as in person at Cedar Creek Winery. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Kids age 12 and under are free; locally-crafted beer, wine and spirits, plus food vendors are available on site.
May 14 - Community Concert: Veritas
The final event of the 2021-22 Morgan County Community Concert Association season will take place on Saturday, May 14. Enjoy live music from the amazing five-man group Veritas. Made up of three tenors, a baritone and a bass, this group presents a powerful and passionate performance of Broadway hits, classical repertoire, re-imagined pop favorites and sacred standards. Music begins at 7 pm at Mt. Gilead Church in Mooresville.
May 19 - 3rd Thursday on the Square: Sidewalk Sales
On the 3rd Thursday of each month, Downtown Martinsville merchants will be open late with fun events and activities. The theme for May is Sidewalk Sales! This event coincides with the weekly Cruise-in on the Square, so bring the whole family downtown to shop sidewalk sales and look at awesome vehicles, beginning at 5 pm. Choose a downtown eatery for dinner as well!
May 20 - Summer Concert: 45 RPM
The first free Sumer Concert of the season at Pioneer Park will take place on Friday, May 20, featuring regional favorites 45 RPM. These performances take place in the open area behind the Aquatic Center. There will be a food truck as well as local beer and wine available on site. Well-behaved pets on leashes are welcome. Bring your own seating; music begins at 7 pm.
May 21 - 2022 Season Opening Day
Willowfield Lavender Farm will kick off their 2022 season on Saturday, May 21. Hours for this season will be 11 am to 4 pm, Wednesdays through Saturdays. Come enjoy the beauty of the lavender fields, complete with free aromatherapy! Browse the store for lavender-themed products and enjoy a glass of signature iced tea and cookies as you relax amid the lavender. Season will continue until early October.
May 21 - Drink at the Creek: 7 Bridges & The Boys in the Band
The 2022 Drink at the Creek Concert Series continues on May 21 with an evening of southern style rock and country. The popular Eagles tribute band 7 Bridges will take the stage following opening act The Boys in the Band, an Alabama tribute band. Gates open at 2 pm. Tickets are available online at rdproductionsllc.com as well as in person at Cedar Creek Winery. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Kids age 12 and under are free; locally-crafted beer, wine and spirits, plus food vendors are available on site.
May 21 - Spring Demolition Derby
The Morgan County Fairgrounds will host a Spring Demolition Derby, produced by Hammer Inc Promotions, on Saturday. May 21. Action will get underway at 5 pm and will feature several classes of competition including full size SS, full size motor swap, gut n go compact and youth compact.
May 23 - Martinsville Community Band Spring Concert
The Martinsville Community Band will present their annual Spring Concert on Monday, May 23. Music begins at 7 pm at the First Baptist Church on Columbus Street. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Masks are encouraged, but not required.
May 26 - Downtown Summer Concert: Stella Luna & the Satellites
The first Downtown Martinsville Free Summer Concert of the season will take place on Thursday, May 26. Music will begin at at 7 pm with popular regional band Stella Luna & The Satellites. Bring your own seating. This year's free concert series will take place on the southeast corner of the downtown square, near the intersection of Jefferson and Washington Streets, due to the ongoing construction of the new downtown outdoor performance venue, which is set to open in September.
May 28 - Drink at the Creek: Thunderstruck & The Classic Rock Experience
The 2022 Drink at the Creek Concert Series continues on May 28 with an evening of rock n roll. The popular AC/DC tribute band Thunderstruck will take the stage following opening act The Classic Rock Experience. Gates open at 2 pm.
