April showers bring May flowers... and lots of other great things such as racing at Paragon Speedway, outdoor recreation opportunities and fun events! May means patio dining, the return of some of our favorite seasonal events, such at the Morgan County Farmers Market, tons of outdoor concerts, Mother's Day events and more.
We've compiled a list of upcoming events you'll want to have on your calendar this May, but we're always adding more, so be sure to check our Events Calendar for updated listings in the coming weeks for even more fun options. In particular, keep an eye out for additional last minute live music events to be added at area venues.
Tuesdays & Saturdays - Morgan County Farmers Market
The Morgan County Farmers Market returns in early May with locations in both Mooresville and Martinsville! Stop in a browse locally grown produce and meats, fresh eggs and baked goods and a variety of handcrafted items. Find them on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 pm at the Friends Church in Mooresville and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm at The Main Connection in Martinsville. Opening day dates are May 4 in Mooresville and May 8 in Martinsville.
Wednesdays - Trivia Night
Join Black Dog Brewing Company for a weekly Trivia Night event each week on Wednesday. Trivia night starts promptly at 6 pm and there are always fun prizes to win for those will all the right answers! Trivia Night takes place inside the brewery.
Thursdays - Cruise-in on the Square
Downtown Martinsville is home to the Cruise-in on the Square each Thursday evening from 5 to 9 pm. Classic and unique cars, trucks and motorcycles take over the parking area around the Morgan County Courthouse. Head downtown to browse these awesome rides, talk to their owners and enjoy dinner and shopping on the square!
Thursdays - Music Bingo & Taste of the Caribbean Food Truck
Love music? How about bingo? Head for Black Dog Brewing Company on Thursday nights. Enjoy a rousing game of music bingo and indulge in food truck flavors of the Taste of the Caribbean featuring authentic Jamaican cuisine. You'll find amazing locally crafted beer from Black Dog as well.
Fridays - Live Music & Gather Around BBQ Food Truck
Fridays at Black Dog Brewing Company almost always feature live music from a locally based musician and great food from the Gather Around BBQ mobile food truck. If you've never tried Gather Around BBQ (home base for them is a brick and mortar location just off the square in Martinsville), this is a great way to sample their awesome BBQ along with great beer from Black Dog, of course!
May 1 - Live Music: Chicken Bone
Enjoy live music from Chicken Bone - this popular acoustic group is made up of performers from regional favorite Tastes Like Chicken. They'll perform on Saturday, May 1 at Cedar Creek Winery, Brewing Company and Distillery. Music begins at 4 pm. This is a free, casual performance and all ages are welcome. Bring your own seating.
Weekends, May 2-30 - Wines & Vines Container Gardening Parties
Greendell Landscape Solutions is back with their fun spring themed Wines & Vines Container Gardening Parties! Instructor-led classes are available May 1 and 15, beginning at 2 pm (perfect for beginners). Open house classes for experienced container gardeners will be May 8 and 22, anytime between 11 am and 4 pm. Sign up in advance to reserve your group's table and time. Wine will be on hand from Mallow Run Winery. (Please call ahead for groups larger than four.) Not interested in a class format? They've got you covered - on Sundays in May, the Potting Bar will be open from 11 am to 2 pm (Excluding Memorial Day Weekend).
May 2 - Live Music: The 78s
Enjoy live music from The 78s - this acoustic duo is a favorite of Cedar Creek regulars. They'll perform on Sunday, May 2 at Cedar Creek Winery, Brewing Company and Distillery. Music begins at 2 pm. This is a free, casual performance and all ages are welcome. Bring your own seating.
May 7 - Johnson Memorial
Paragon Speedway welcomes the Johnson Memorial on Friday, May 7. Racing will feature Springs, Hornets and the Indiana Late Model Series. Racing starts at 7:30 pm. Gates open at 5:30 pm; Hot Laps begin at 6:40 pm. Pit passes are available. Kids 10 and under are free with paid adult admission (does not include Pit Passes).
May 7 - Mother's Day Ladies Night
Join the ladies of Celebrations Boutique for a special Mother's Day Ladies Night on Friday, May 7. The Rhinestone Hanger Boutique will also be on hand for a pop-up event that weekend and the first 10 customers to arrive on Friday evening will receive a free gift!
May 7 & 8 - Dessert Before Dinner
The Martinsville Candy Kitchen brings back their popular Dessert Before Dinner event, Mother's Day style! On May 7 and 8, you can reserve your table for a very special Mother's Day Weekend Dessert Before Dinner featuring a special menu of tasty desserts - choose from Strawberry Delight Cake, Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake or Lemonade Sorbet. Reservations are available on Friday from 5 to 8:30 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 7:30 pm. (Pre-order your dessert when you make reservations to ensure that your choice is available.) Carryout available as well.
May 8 - Downtown Mooresville Street Fair
Join The Farmhouse Market and Tattoligans for their first outdoor Street Fair of the season in downtown Mooresville! Beginning at 10 am on Saturday, May 8, you can browse a variety of outdoor vendors, rock to the music of DJ Chuck Key, dine on tasty food truck fare, shop The Farmhouse Market and other downtown stores and indulge the kids in some bounce house action! It's a win-win for everyone.
May 8 - Mom & Me Tea
Celebrations Boutique and the visiting Rhinestone Hanger Boutique invite you to bring Mom to a special Saturday "Mom and Me Tea" event on May 8 from Noon to 5 pm. Spend some quality time together and enjoy high quality shopping at the same time!
May 8 - Tunes on the Tee: Kristopher Garner
Join the FoxCliff Golf Club for this season's first Tunes on the Tee event, featuring live music from Kristopher Garner. Enjoy live outdoor music from 6 to 9 pm. Noble Roman's Pizza is on-site for your dining enjoyment along with beer and wine from the FoxCliff Clubhouse. Music is free and all ages are welcome. Bring your own seating.
May 9 - Mother's Day Brunch
Join Cheff Matt and his staff at 21 North Eatery and Cellar for a brunch your mom with love! Enjoy craft cocktails as you choose from the special Mother's Day menu, served from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday, May 9. Notable menu items include Butter Poached Lobster Eggs Benedict, served with sweet potato and chorizo hash, Quiche Lorraine with Kentucky Ham and Swiss, and Organic Chicken, English Peas, Morel and Shiitake Mushroom Tagliatelle. (Kids menu and dessert menu available.) Reservations are recommended.
May 9 - Live Music: The Sax Guy
On Mother's Day, Cedar Creek Winery, Brewing Company and Distillery will welcome The Sax Guy for a casual live performance. Music will begin at 2 pm. This is a free show and all ages are welcome. Bring your own seating. Beverages will be available from the on site winery, brewing company and distillery.
May 14 - 2nd Friday Open Studios Night
Stop by the Art Sanctuary of Indiana on the evening of Friday, May 14 and chat with local artists in their working studios. The Art Sanctuary is home to several artists working in a variety of media. They host an Open Studios Night on the second Friday of each month. Enjoy a fun Mother-Daughter painting project beginning at 6 pm, guided by NanC's Heart-n-Soul, one of the resident artists. (Cost of art project is $20 per person or $40 per pair.)
May 15 - Class: Wine Bottle Wind Chimes
Join Ateliers Sip N Paint for this fun and interesting class where you'll create your own set of wind chimes from a wine bottle! Class is on May 15, beginning at 1 pm. Call ahead to reserve your space. Cost is $35 per person. Class size is limited.
May 15 - Singer Hobbies Car/Motorcycle Show
Singer Hobbies (same location as Krypton Comics) will host a car and motorcycle show on Saturday, May 15. Awards will be given in multiple categories. Entry cost is $15 in advance or $20 on the day of show. Judging will take place between 2 and 3 pm and awards will be presented at 3:30 pm. Spectators are welcome!
May 15 - Drink at the Creek: Resurrection & Fancy Sauce
The 2021 Drink at the Creek Concert Series will kick off on May 15 with popular favorites Resurrection ( a Journey tribute band) and Fancy Sauce. Come out and enjoy great music, handcrafted beverages and a gorgeous setting. All ages welcome. May 17 - Fun on Tap: Drink, Eat, Give
Spend an evening at Black Dog Brewing Company on May 17 from 7 to 9 pm at this Fun on Tap fundraiser for the Kiersten Woodward Memorial Fund. Your ticket includes tastings of multiple brews (cider or wine tasting available upon request), charcuterie boards, a brewery tour and other fun surprises. This event is limited to 21+.
May 20 - 3rd Thursday on the Square
Shop downtown on the 3rd Thursday of every month! Downtown merchants and Rediscover Martinsville host this monthly event which also coincides with the Cruise-in on the Square. Participating businesses often have special deals, pop up shops, giveaways and more as part of the 3rd Thursday on the Square. Watch for specific details on this month's event as the date gets closer.
May 21 - Bomber Spring Fling
The dirt track oval at Paragon Speedway will host the Bomber Spring Fling on Friday, May 21. This racing event will feature Springs, Modifieds, Bombers and Hornets. Racing starts at 7:30 pm. Gates open at 5:30 pm; Hot Laps begin at 6:40 pm. Pit passes are available. Kids 10 and under are free with paid adult admission (does not include Pit Passes).
May 21 - Free Summer Concert: Living Proof
The Mooresville Summer Concert Series at Pioneer Park will kick off on Friday, May 21 with the band Living Proof. Music begins at 7 pm. This is a free performance and all ages are welcome. Bring your own seating. There will be refreshments available on site.
May 21 & 22 - The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (VIRTUAL EVENT)
The Merry MAC Players are going above and beyond to bring you quality theatre in a convenient, no-risk format. They'll presented The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon as a virtual event on May 21 and 22. The performance will be live each evening and your virtual ticket will grant you access to the show on one device. Your entire family can watch this fun and comedic performance as so many of the Brothers Grimm stories are mashed up into one performance. Tickets are $20 for one performance or $35 if you'd like to see both!
May 22 - Community Yard Sale & Bazaar
The Morgan County Fairgrounds and Morgan County Habitat for Humanity are teaming up to host a Community Yard Sale and Bazaar at the Fairgrounds on May 22. Browse the booths from 8 am to 3 pm where you'll discover everything from handmade items to vendor booths to vintage finds! This will be an outdoor event.
May 22 - Class: Hydro Dip Tumbler
Join Ateliers Sip N Paint for this fun and interesting class where you'll create your very own tumbler using a hydro dip process! Class is on May 22, beginning at 1 pm. Call ahead to reserve your space. Cost is $40 per person. Class size is limited.
May 22 - Drink at the Creek: Thunderstruck & Duelranger
The 2021 Drink at the Creek Concert Series continues on May 22 with performances from Thunderstruck (an AC/DC Tribute band) and Duelranger. Music begin at 5 pm.
