Spring is finally arriving in Morgan County! We can't wait for warm, sunny days, dogwood and redbud trees in bloom and more time outside. It's the perfect season for some hiking - there's nothing like watching nature awaken from its winter sleep. Make sure you get out and enjoy everything that early springtime in Morgan County has to offer - to help, here's our list of upcoming events:
Gateway Fun Run/Walk
Join the Knobstone Trail Hiking Association for their first ever Gateway Fun Run/Walk at Jimmy Nash Park in Martinsville. Proceeds from the event will help the group as they work toward completion of the 150-mile Knobstone Trail. Once complete, Martinsville will be the northern gateway to the trail that will travel south all the way to the Ohio River!
Public Viewing at Link Observatory
Join the experts at Link Observatory Space Science Institute for their monthly observation night on the first Saturday of the month. You'll be able to explore the observatory, view the skies through the large telescope and get all your questions answered!
Intro to Mandala Art
Morgan County artist Lynne Medsker will host an Intro to Mandala Art workshop at her Unruly Image Studio near Martinsville on March 8. You'll learn how to create these beautiful works of art! Advanced registration is required as class size is limited.
No Cover Songwriters Showcase
Enjoy an evening of live music and great food at Zydeco's Cajun in Mooresville. On the second Thursday of each month, entertainment is provided by the No Cover Songwriters Showcase, which highlights local and regional singer songwriters. Music starts at 7 pm!
2nd Friday Open Studio Night
This month's Open Studios Night at the Art Sanctuary of Indiana will feature the Msd of Martinsville's Youth Art Exhibit as well as time to mingle with the facility's many resident artists. Stop by on March 9 to see amazing works from local artists - both young and old!
Downtown at Dusk
Downtown Martinsville opens up it's doors late on the second Friday of each month for Downtown at Dusk. Enjoy dinner at a downtown eatery, browse through local shops where you'll find everything from fine handmade jewelry to high quality resale items, and don't forget a stop at the Martinsville Candy Kitchen! Shortly before 7 pm, Taps on the Square will begin. Featuring live, rolling taps from around the square, Taps on the Square is an every Friday night tradition in downtown Martinsville.
Maple Syrup Camp
Brandford Woods knows how to welcome spring... with maple syrup camp, of course! This fun event is for kids in grades K-8 and there are both day camp and overnight options, March 9-10. Your kids will love this fun (and educational) event in one of the most iconic locations in all of Morgan County!
One of the sure signs of spring, GardenFest will take place on Saturday March 17 from 9 am to 3 pm. Organized by the Morgan County Master Gardeners, this event features fun vendors, educational information about gardening, free seeds and beautiful pansies for sale to start your gardening season off right. Educational presentations also qualify for Indiana Master Gardener credits!
Link Observatory's LinkLive Presentation
Link Observatory Space Science Institute seeks to share the wonders of the universe in ways that inspire, excite, challenge and educate. Their LinkLive presentations take place at the Mooresville Public Library, followed by open observation at the Observatory (take the shuttle so you can discuss your experience on the way back to the library). This month's program is on March 17.
Spring Wild Edibles Workshop
The Morgan County Soil and Water Conservation District presents a fun program on the various kinds of wild edibles you can find in springtime. From early greens to young shoots and berries, you'll learn where and how to find them with Master Naturalist David Mow. The workshop will have two components - inside at the Morgan County Administration Building and outdoors at Burkhart Creek Park!
