As we find ourselves a full month into the New Year, it's that time of year that's rather unpredictable in Indiana... it could be frigid cold and icy, or almost spring-like. That means last minute adventures can be found just by going out doors - hit up "Park Hill" at Jimmy Nash Park for a fun slide down when it's snowy, or head for one of the area's many trails for some fresh air on milder days. (We recommend sticking to the paved trails just after a thaw - trudging through inches of mud isn't good for the natural surface trails, and it's not much fun either.) Of course, you can't forget about fun events throughout Morgan County - things start ramping up again n February after a brief lull after the holidays. Here's our pick for February events to get on your calendar:

Live Music with Andrew Pittman - Sundays
Live music returns to Cedar Creek with this fun series featuring singer/songwriter Andrew Pittman on Sunday afternoons. Music begins at 2 pm each Sunday and will continue until 5 pm. Enjoy the unique beverages available from Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co and Distillery! 

Classes from Nancy Maxwell Fine Art - Beginning in February
Morgan County artist Nancy Maxwell launches three separate class series this month. Drawing and Painting for Kids will meet on Thursdays at 4 pm, followed by Drawing for Fun and Improvement at 6:30 pm. An Oil Painting Studio session will take place on Fridays at 10 am. 

Link Observatory Events - Feb. 3, 8 & 17
The Link Observatory Space Science Institute will have three opportunities for you to visit, explore and observe this month. On Feb. 3, they will host open public observation hours in the evening. On Feb. 8, the facility will have daytime open hours from 9 am to 3 pm, and they will host a LinkLive event on Feb. 17, featuring a multi-media presentation at the Mooresville Public Library followed by viewing at the observatory.  

Winter Trail Run - Feb. 3
The Indiana Trail Running Association will host a Winter Run 'n Fun event at Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Event is free and open to all levels. Meet at Cherry Lake Lodge at 8 am and be sure to stay for the after-party! There will be course options of varying distances available to choose from. 

Live Music: Gemini Pie - Feb. 3
Popular regional band Gemini Pie will perform at Ralph & Ava's Cafe on Main Street in Mooresville. Music begins at 7 pm. You'll love their unique blend of country, light rock and easy listening favorites - perfect for an enjoyable dinner with friends! The Art of Color - Feb. 6 & 8
Join J. Hogue Fine Arts inside the Art Sanctuary for a relaxing and creative evening. You'll learn to create the color wheel using only primary hues. Group size is limited; adults only. All materials and light snacks provide; you are welcome to bring your preferred beverages. 

An Introduction to Handmade Journals - Feb. 8
Artist Lynne Medsker will host a handmade journal class at her Unruly Image Studio near Martinsville. During the class she will share her fun technique for creating handmade journals using book binding techniques. You'll leave the class with one finished lay-flat journal and enough materials to create a second one at home. 

Downtown at Dusk & Open Studios Night - Feb. 9
Explore downtown Martinsville on the second Friday of the month. The Art Sanctuary hosts an Open Studios Night where you can mingle with resident artists and many other downtown businesses are open late to welcome you. Discover The Sterling Butterfly, Martinsville Candy Kitchen, De Lyne Jewelry and more! 

Live Music: John Gilmore - Feb. 9
Martinsville's newest downtown eatery, 21 North Eatery & Cellar, presents musician John Gilmore to the stage for a fun, casual performance accompanied by a scrumptious chef-inspired dinner and drinks. Family friendly atmosphere; music begins at 8 pm.

Mardi Gras at Zydeco's - Feb. 9, 10 & 13
This is arguably the most authentic Mardi Gras celebration you can find in Indiana! Three nights of celebration, featuring Family Night with special kids activities, Masquerade Night and a special limited seat buffet dinner on Fat Tuesday. Fantastic live entertainment, King Cake and fun provided each evening. 

Roe's Annual Antiques & Collectibles Auction - Feb. 22
A Morgan County tradition, this auction featuring a wide variety of antiques and collectibles takes place each year at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. This auction event is so big, it takes two auction houses to make it happen! Who knows what treasures you'll discover?  

Watercolor Fun for Kids - Feb. 24
J. Hogue Fine Arts presents another fun, artistic class - this one for the kids! Suggested age is 4-8 years old and participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All materials are provided. Participants will create fun watercolor pictures and be able to take them home with ideas on how to turn them into other fun projects. 

Community Concert Series: Scarborough Fair - Feb. 26
The Morgan County Community Concert Association presents another fantastic concert with Scarborough Fair. This Simon and Garfunkle tribute features brothers Jab and Jack Guthrie, who sing and play guitar featuring the Americana sound of Simon and Garfunkle as well as engaging stories, trivia and humor. The show starts at 7:30 pm at the Martinsville High School Auditorium.
