As summer begins to draw to a close, there's still plenty of fun to be found in Morgan County! Explore the outdoors, enjoy local dining options and don't forget about upcoming events this month. Farmers' Market is still going strong with a plethora of locally grown produce and handcrafted items. Lots of live music options are on the calendar for August and as always, we'll be adding new events to the event calendar all month long!
Live Trivia at Black Dog Brewing Company
Join Mooresville's new brewing company for a fun evening of live trivia on Wednesdays. There's always great beer, lots of fun and even some tasty food available at Black Dog Brewing Company! Trivia begins at 6 pm and prizes are awarded to the top teams. Games are entirely hands-free! You are welcome to bring your own pens and paper if you wish, but it will not be provided.
Cruise-in on the Square
Join the fun with a variety of vintage cars each Thursday evening in downtown Martinsville. Beginning at 5 pm, cars, trucks and other vehicles begin arriving at the courthouse square for Cruise-in on the Square, a weekly event that creates a fun and festive atmosphere for anyone looking for a great place to enjoy dinner, shopping and a stroll around the square with a unique backdrop. Talk with vehicle owners and enjoy a relaxed evening downtown.
Music Bingo at Black Dog Brewing Company
Thursdays mean a fun night of Music Bingo at Black Dog Brewing Company! Grab your friends and get ready to highlight your musical knowledge in the quest for fun and fun prizes! Music bingo takes place beginning at 6 pm every Thursday. Great locally brewed beer and other beverages are available nightly.
Taps on the Square
Each and every Friday evening on the courthouse square, watch and listen as American heroes are honored with Taps on the Square. This weekly event has taken place without fail since December, 2012. Names are read beginning at 6:55 pm and live, rolling Taps is sounded at the the seventh bell by the Indiana Spirit of '45 Buglers. This is truly an experience - even those enjoying outdoor dining at area restaurants or walking down the street will pause in respect for this weekly Morgan County tradition.
Morgan County Farmers Market
The first week of August is National Farmers Market Week! Join area growers and crafters at the Farmers Market each week through September. Tuesday Market takes place at the Friends Church in Mooresville from 3 to 7 pm and Saturday Market takes place at The Main Connection in Martinsville from 9 am to 1 pm. Vendors feature locally grown veggies, eggs, meat and handcrafted items such as jewelry, soaps, candles, woodcrafts and more. There are frequently live music performances during the market as well!
Morgan County Fair
The Morgan County Fair continues through August 7. You'll enjoy carnival rides, games, merchant booths, 4-H exhibits and much more. Don't miss the local food vendors featuring everything from roasted corn to homemade recipe soft serve ice cream. Live Music: The 78s
Enjoy the afternoon at Cedar Creek Winery, Brewing Company and Distillery with locally crafted beverages, a beautiful setting and casual live music from The 78s. Music begins at 2 pm on Sunday, August 1. This is a free show and all ages are welcome.
Morgan County Fair & Square 5K
Each year, the Morgan County Fair wraps up the week with a fun Fair & Square 5K run/walk event that takes you from the fairgrounds to the downtown Martinsville courthouse square and back again. The race begin at 8 am. Registration is available on site prior to the race.
Drink at the Creek: Absolute Queen & 45 RPM
This month's installments of the Drink at the Creek Concert Series will kick off on August 7 with the music of rock legends Queen, as performed by tribute band Absolute Queen. Music will begin at 5 pm with regional favorites 45 RPM. Food and beverages will be available on site. Bring your own seating. All ages welcome.
August Brunch at 21 North
Join Chef Matt at 21 North Eatery + Cellar on August 8 from 11 am to 2 pm for their monthly Sunday Brunch event. This month's menu features tasty dishes like Short Rib Eggs Benedict, a Breakfast Burger, Farm Stand Salad, Chicken and Waffles and more. Children's menu also available. Reservations are recommended.
Mooresville Old Settlers Picnic & Fair
The Old Settlers Picnic and Fair is an iconic Mooresville festival takes place August 8-10, kicking off with a parade on Sunday beginning at 2 pm. After the parade, you'll find carnival rides, games, community booths, great food and live entertainment at Pioneer Park. Stop by for a lemon shake up and enjoy one of last big festivals of summer in Morgan County. Admission to the festival is free.
Dirt Track Racing at Paragon Speedway
Enjoy the action on the dirt track oval with racing on August 8, 13 and 27. A Morgan County tradition for generations, Paragon Speedway's fast paced dirt oval provides lots of thrills and excitement for all ages. As always, kids are free with a paid adult admission. Check the calendar for each date to verify ticket price and the types of cars that will be on the track that night.
Mooresville Masonic Lodge Car Show & Fish Fry
Join the Mooresville Masonic Lodge for their annual Car Show and Fish Fry! The Car Show will take place on August 7 with registration beginning at 8 am and awards presented in the afternoon. The Fish Fry is a two-day event on both August 7 and 8, and they begin serving at 11 am on both days.
Little Red Barn Market
Love a good barn sale? Come and explore the first ever Little Red Barn Market on August 13 and 14 at the Walker Homestead near Martinsville. You'll find 70+ vendor booths with handmade merchandise, food trucks on site and more. Bring the kids - there will be a petting zoo and live entertainment on hand. This is a juried market, so you can be assured that all merchandise is of the highest quality. The Little Red Barn Market will be open from 4 to 9 pm on Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
Open Studios Night
Come out to the Art Sanctuary of Indiana in Martinsville on Friday, August 13 for their monthly Open Studios Night from 6 to 8 pm. Stop in and chat with nearly two dozen resident artists, see their work and explore their studio space before or after enjoying dinner at a downtown eatery.
Smoke at the Creek Boutique Cigar Festival
You know Cedar Creek for their winery, brewery and distillery, but did you know about Cedar Creek Cigars? They'll host the first ever Cedar Creek Smoke at the Creek Boutique Cigar Festival on August 13 and 14. You'll discover new boutique brands from the variety of vendors on site, plus enjoy live music, several food trucks and more. Tickets are available online.
Free Comic Book Day & Mini-Con
August 14 is Free Comic Book Day! Here in Martinsville Krypton Comics takes it a stop further - oh, you'll still get a free comic book, but you can also meet a real comic book artist, see characters in costume and more. This free event begins at 11 am.
3rd Thursdays on the Square
Join the downtown merchants of Martinsville for a fun monthly event. Shop the square (and beyond) to discover unique treasures at a variety of shops, as well as dinner at your favorite downtown eatery. On the 3rd Thursday of each month, shops stay open late and there are often additional specials or other events. This month's event will be August 19 with a Back to School theme.
AAVFD Fish Fry & More
Head for the tiny town of Eminence on August 20 and 21 for the A&A Townships Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry! The fish fry will begin at 11 am both days, but there's far more to see and do than just a tasty meal. There will also be a variety of vendor booths on site, a tractor pull on Friday at 6 pm, garden tractor pull on Saturday at 6 pm, plus live music both nights beginning at 7:30 pm. The Terry Lee Band will perform on Friday and the MLE Band featuring Cord Watkins on Saturday.
Carnival of Cars: Midwest Edition
The Carnival of Cars: Midwest Edition returns to Martinsville on Saturday, August 21. This fun event features a car show, cruise in, live entertainment, games and prizes and more. This is the second year for the Midwest event, a spin off of the very popular Carnival of Cars event on the east coast. Come out for a day of awesome cars, entertainment and family fun at the Morgan County Fairgrounds!
Dancing... in silence? Well, sort of. The Silent Disco event returns to Brickhouse on Main in Martinsville on August 21, courtesy of the Martinsville Rotary Club. This fun event features special headsets that allow participants to choose from three different music channels. Dance the night away with friends, even if you have different taste in music! There will be a cash bar on site.
Live Music: Marvin Parish
Cedar Creek Winery will host popular musician Marvin Parish for an informal, free concert on Sunday, August 22. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the beautiful grounds of Cedar Creek. Music begins at 2 pm. This is a free show and all ages are welcome.
Wine Pairing Dinner
Chef Matt at 21 North Eatery + Cellar presents another fun Wine Pairing Dinner on Tuesday, August 24. Get your tickets early, before they're gone! (Seriously, they tend to sell out.) Enjoy five scrumptious courses perfectly paired with five outstanding wines. This month's menu features Indiana Corn Veloute, Spanish Iberico Pork Loin and a Meyer Lemon, Berries and Olive Oli Cake.
Y Fun Run Series:
Come explore Pioneer Park with a fun run on Aug. 25, courtesy of the Barbara B Jordan YMCA. Meet up at the park and be ready to run at 6 pm. This is a free practice event for the annual Y Run in November.
