April brings warmer days, flowers in bloom and fun events to Morgan County! This time of year is perfect for getting back outside and enjoying a hiking trail or two, or just wandering around town for the afternoon, exploring new shops and old favorites. Be sure to hit up one of our favorite ice cream spots to celebrate the warmer temperatures. Welcome, spring!

Here are the upcoming events you'll need on your calendar to enjoy the season in Morgan County, but be sure to check our event calendar, as additional events will be added there throughout the month as we receive information on them.  

Cruise-in on the Square - Every Thursday
One of our favorite area traditions is set to return to the downtown courthouse square in Martinsville on Thursdays, beginning in April. Join unique and historic car owners from around the area as they gather on the square each Thursday, beginning at 5 pm for the Cruise-in on the Square. This creates a fun and festive atmosphere downtown, perfect for enjoying dinner at one of several downtown eateries, browsing local shops and of course, checking out all the cool cars! 

Daffodil Gardens at Link Observatory - Weekends
Spring flower lovers rejoice! After two years of being closed to the public due to the pandemic, the daffodil gardens at Link Observatory will once again be open to the public, courtesy of the Indiana Daffodil Society. Stop by any weekend day in April from 10 am to 5 pm to see the naturalized daffodil gardens on the grounds, featuring hundreds of different varieties. Family Karaoke Night - Apr. 1
Tom Fiddlery and the Main Street Stage presents a fun Family Karaoke Night on April 1. This event is open to all ages. Food and drink will be available and is included in the $10 admission fee. Doors open at 6 pm on Main Street in downtown Martinsville. 

Live Music: Marvin Parish - Apr. 2
Enjoy an afternoon of live music and locally crafted beverages in a beautiful location at Cedar Creek Winery on Saturday, April 2. Popular musician Marvin Parish will take the stage at 4 pm. This is free, casual performance and all ages are welcome. 

Pig Roast & Pie Baking Contest - Apr. 3
Cedar Creek Brewing Co will host a Pig Roast & Pie Baking Contest on Sunday, April 3. This event will include live music, a pie throwing contest and of course, locally handcrafted wine, beer and spirits. Come out between 1 and 5 pm to enjoy music from The 78s, tasty roast pork (donated by Maple Grove Market) and fun for the whole family. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance, which was instrumental in supporting historic Springcliff Farm after their devastating barn fire earlier this year.  

Stitch & B*tch - Apr. 6 & 20
Join local fiber artists and crafters for an evening of working on your current textile or fiber project over coffee and good company. Twice each month, this group meets at the Art Sanctuary of Indiana to, well... stitch and b*tch! Meet downstairs in studio 001 A/B at 6 pm to join the fun. 

2nd Friday Open Studios Night: MSD of Martinsville Youth Art Show - Apr. 8
Join the artists of the Art Sanctuary for Open Studios Night on April 8 for a fun evening of arts and culture. The featured exhibition in April will be the MSD of Martinsville Youth Art Show. Stop in between 6:30 and 8:30 pm to see local up-and-coming artists. Chat with resident artists about their work and browse the working studios and hallways of the Art Sanctuary. It's also a great excuse to explore the rest of downtown Martinsville by stopping in at local shops and eateries! 

Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 9
A community Easter Egg Hunt will take place at Jimmy Nash City Park on April 9, courtesy of local radio stations, WCBK and JoyFM. Registration begins at Noon with egg hunting at 1 pm. The Easter Bunny will be on hand from Noon to 1 pm for photos before the hunt. There will be over 5,000 eggs filled with candy and prizes. The hunt is open to ages 1-12. Please bring your own basket/container. 

Live Music: Electric Martinis - Apr. 9
Enjoy an afternoon of live music and locally crafted beverages in a beautiful location at Cedar Creek Winery on Saturday, April 9. The Electric Martinis will take the stage at 4 pm. This is free, casual performance and all ages are welcome. 

Dirt Track Racing at Paragon Speedway - Apr. 9, 16, 23 & 30
​Racing has returned to our favorite dirt track oval at Paragon Speedway. The 2020 season is underway and the track is ready to shine with lots of recent improvements under new ownership. Races take place on Saturdays with affordable admission costs. (Some events may be subject to special event ticket pricing.)  Bring the kids and enjoy a night at the races! This month's race dates are April 9, 16, 23 and 30. Fan appreciation night will be April 23 with a special driver meet and greet opportunity! 

Acrylic Painting Class: Hanging Lilacs - Apr. 10
Learn to paint with Ateliers Sip N Paint in Martinsville! This instructor-led class will feature an acrylic painting of hanging lilacs against a wood background. Space is limited, so you must register early to participate. Class will be Sunday, April 10 at 1 pm. Cost includes all materials needed. 

An Intimate Evening with Verlon Thompson - Apr. 10
Verlon Thompson is a songwriter, storyteller and guitar virtuoso who spent 20 years as Guy Clark's sideman. This must-see performance will take place at 5 East in Mooresville on Sunday, April 10. This is an intimate venue with limited seating, so don't delay on reserving your tickets! Doors open at 6 pm and music begins at 7 pm with opening act CPR Revival, followed by Verlon Thompson. Watercolor Painting Class: Night Sky - Apr. 13
Learn to paint with Ateliers Sip N Paint in Martinsville! This instructor-led class will feature a watercolor painting of the night sky with pine trees below. Space is limited, so you must register early to participate. Class will be Wednesday, April 13 at 5 pm. Cost includes all materials needed. 

Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 16
Head for Pioneer Park in Mooresville on Saturday, April 16 for an Easter Egg Hunt for ages 10 and under, courtesy of Carpenter Realtors. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Hunt begins at 11 am sharp at the baseball fields. No registration required. Please bring your own basket/container. 

Trop Rock Party at The Creek - Apr. 16
If you love tropical rock, you won't want to miss this fun event at Cedar Creek Brewing Co on Jimmy Buffet Day - Saturday, April 16. Enjoy a live DJ, on site food truck and everything tropical! Dig out those tropical shirts and hats, slip on those flip-flops and join the Trop Rock Party. Event begins at 5 o'clock, of course! 

Easter Sunday Brunch - Apr. 17
Join Chef Matt and the friendly staff at 21 North Eatery + Cellar for Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 17. Each month, this chef-owned restaurant features a special brunch menu, served from 10 am to 2 pm. This month's menu will feature items such as lobster deviled eggs, a carrot cake waffle and more. Reservations are recommended, especially for larger groups. Kids menu available. 

3rd Thursday on the Square: Boutique Crawl - Apr. 21
Browse the many downtown shops and boutiques during this month's 3rd Thursday on the Square. Shops will stay open late and feature special deals or events on Thursday, April 21. It's the perfect time to come check out what's happening in downtown Martinsville! This event does coincide with the Cruise-in on the Square, ladies, so it is totally acceptable to leave your husband outside to look at cars while you shop. Don't miss the Hooked on Yarning pop-up shop at Fables & Fairy Tales!

A Grave Matter in Indiana - Apr. 21
The Morgan County Public Library presents A Grave Matter in Indiana, a program on cemeteries in Indiana. Learn more about cemeteries as outdoor museums and how the state is working to protect and restore them. Jeannie R. Regan-Dimas of the Indiana DNR will speak on Indiana cemeteries at the Main Branch of the library in Martinsville on Thursday, April 21. This program begins at 7 pm and is free to all who are interested. 

Live Music: Coner Berry - Apr. 23
Cedar Creek Winery presents live music from Coner Berry on Saturday, April 23. The duo is made up of the two musicians Scott Coner, a veteran singer-songwriter out of Nashville, TN, and Mike Berry, front man of the successful Indiana-based band Sweetwater. Music will begin at 4 pm. This is a free, casual performance and all ages are welcome. 

JoySwing Jazz Orchestra - Apr. 24
The Morgan County Community Concerts Association presents the JoySwing Jazz Orchestra. Performing at the Mooresville High School Auditorium, this fun group will take the stage at 7 pm on Sunday, April 24. Known for big band jazz and gospel music, the JoySwing Jazz Orchestra will delight listeners of all ages. The Morgan County Community Concerts Association presents a variety of performances throughout the year in Morgan County communities. Both season tickets and single event tickets are available. 

Community Yard Sale & Craft Bazaar - Apr. 30 
Come out to the Morgan County Fairgrounds and enjoy browsing through several booths of merchandise from both craft artisans and resale booths at the Morgan County Community Yard Sale & Craft Bazaar. This is the second annual event that combines the Morgan County Fair Community Yard Sale and the Morgan County Habitat for Humanity Craft Bazaar into a single event! Booths will open at 7 am on Saturday, April 3 and the event will run until 3 pm. 

Spring Fling on the Farm - Apr. 30 
Maple Grove Market will host a fun Spring Fling on the Farm event on Saturday, April 30. There will be live music from the Morgan Johns Band, shopping both at the market and from local vendors with a variety of handmade items. This is a free event for the whole family, from 11 am to 4 pm. Live music from Noon to 3 pm. 

Independent Book Store Day - Apr. 30  
Celebrate Independent Book Store Day on Saturday, April 30 with a trip to Fables and Fairy Tales in downtown Martinsville. This fun store has a wide selection of books and other items for all ages and interests. Watch for more details about their Independent Book Store celebration!
