April brings warmer days, flowers in bloom and fun events to Morgan County! This time of year is perfect for getting back outside and enjoying a hiking trail or two, or just wandering around town for the afternoon, exploring new shops and old favorites. Be sure to hit up one of our favorite ice cream spots to celebrate the warmer temperatures. Welcome, spring!
As events return to our schedules, please remember that although Indiana's mask requirement is set to transition from a mandate to an advisory on April 6, along with returning all decisions about venue capacity and social gatherings to the local level, we do encourage both residents and visitors to follow the advice of health experts and continue to wear a mask in crowded situations, especially indoors.
Here are the upcoming events you'll need on your calendar to enjoy the season in Morgan County, but be sure to check our event calendar, as additional events will be added there throughout the month as we receive information on them.
Cruise-in on the Square
One of our favorite area traditions is set to return to the downtown courthouse square in Martinsville on Thursdays, beginning April 1. Join unique and historic car owners from around the area as they gather on the square each Thursday, beginning at 5 pm for the Cruise-in on the Square. This creates a fun and festive atmosphere downtown, perfect for enjoying dinner at one of several downtown eateries, browsing local shops and of course, checking out all the cool cars!
Both Cedar Creek Winery in Martinsville and Black Dog Brewing Company in Mooresville often feature live musical entertainment on weekends. While we don't have a set schedule from them for the month, you can bet they'll have some great music coming. Watch their respective Facebook pages for updates on who might be performing at these two fun and relaxed venues. Casual performances at both locations are free and open to all ages. (Cedar Creek's Drink at the Creek Concert Series is set to kick off in May - advance tickets are available at rdproductionsllc.com.)
Plant Your Own Herb Garden
Join Dirt Darlin' in Morgantown for a fun class on Saturday, April 3, beginning at Noon. You'll plant your own mini herb garden featuring three different herbs in your choice of planter. Lunch from the Little Red Wagon Food Truck is included in the cost, which is $35 per person.
Chef Matt at 21 North Eatery and Cellar has been at it again, creating a scrumptious brunch menu for Easter! Join them on April 4, from 10 am to 3 pm. Reservations are strongly encouraged. This month's brunch menu includes Chocolate Chip Pancakes with sweet cannoli whipped cream, Marksbury Farms Steak and Eggs, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Lobster Quiche, Low Country Shrimp and Grits, Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle and more!
2nd Friday Open Studios Night
Join the artists of the Art Sanctuary for Open Studios Night on April 9 for a fun evening of arts and culture. Chat with resident artists about their work and browse the working studios and hallways of the Art Sanctuary. It's also a great excuse to explore the rest of downtown Martinsville by stopping in at local shops and eateries!
DIY Craft Kit Class
Fables and Fairy Tales will present their April Craft Class on Sunday, April 11. This moth's creation is a fun wooden sign that says "home." Join them in store for the class with instruction or via Zoom from home on April 11 from 2 to 4 pm, or pick up a DIY box to complete on your own, at a time that works for you. Snacks and refreshments are provided for the in store class. Cost is $35 in store, or $30 for the take home kit.
3rd Thursday on the Square
Browse the many downtown shops and boutiques during this month's 3rd Thursday on the Square. Shops will stay open late and feature special deals or events on Thursday, April 15. It's the perfect time to come check out what's happening in downtown Martinsville! This event does coincide with the Cruise-in on the Square, ladies, so it is totally acceptable to leave your husband outside to look at cars while you shop.
USAC Sprints at Paragon Speedway
Racing returns to our favorite dirt track oval at Paragon Speedway on April 18. Tickets and pit passes are on sale now and available at TracPass.com. Remaining tickets (and kids tickets) will be available at the gate on the day of racing. This is a Sunday race and the action will begin at 6 pm.
Spring at the Barn Vendor Fair
Emory Acres Event Barn in Paragon is set to welcome you to the Spring at the Barn Vendor Fair on April 24. Shopping will begin at 10 am and the event will run until 4 pm. Come out and enjoy a beautiful drive in the spring weather, shop a variety of local vendors including crafts, boutiques, artisans and more! Food will be available on site and booths will be set up both indoors and outdoors.
Uncle Babe's Backyard Bash
Come on out for the first big event of the season at Cedar Creek Winery! Presented by Blonde Entertainment, Uncle Babe's Backyard Bash will take place on Saturday, April 24 featuring food from Friends of Fried, Johnson's BBQ Shack, Treats by Fee and Grumpy Gringo. Enjoy on stage performances from Dean Martini, Warrior Kings, Doug Henthorn, The Nauti Yachtys, The Flying Toasters and The Doo! Admission is $10 per person in advance or $15 day of event (if still available). All ages are welcome, music begins at 11 am. Bring your own seating, please.
